Addition- combining a set of number to reach a total or sum • Subtraction- taking away one number from another to find what is left • Multiplication- repeated addition, taking factors and finding the product • Division- splitting a number into equal groups to find the quotient • Evaluate- to process and solve • Expression- a math problem 2+5-9x4

  3. Order of operations- The order in which you evaluate an expression • Parentheses- (), [], {} used to group an expression • Exponents- the small number to the upper right of a base number that tells you how many times to multiply the base number • Base number- the number used to multiply the number of times as the exponent tells you

  4. C- the key numbers • U- underline the question • B- in key words • E- Evaluate the problem- ask yourself “What steps should I take to solve the problem?” • S- solve the problem and check your work circle box CUBES- how solve word problems
