  1. Introducing Vocabulary

  2. Root words • The form of a word after all affixes are removed. • So what is an affix?

  3. Affixes • An additional element placed at the beginning or end of a root, stem, or word, or in the body of a word, to modify its meaning. • For example, prefixes and suffixes are affixes. • What would be an example of a prefix? • What would be an example of a suffix?

  4. Prefixes • A prefix is a group of letters that has been added to the front of a word, thereby changing the meaning of that word. • For example, if you add mid (a prefix meaning middle) to week, so midweek, the meaning of the word changes to "the middle of the week."

  5. Fore • This week’s vocabulary will focus around the prefix –fore. • What does this prefix mean?
