  6. Overview of Lesson Unit Lesson plan is for: • Communication graphics students • Any students taking a graphic design/desktop publishing class • Can be adapted for any technology classes with Internet access and graphics software

  7. Overview of Lesson Unit In graphic design, contemporary artists set trends that are reflected in advertising, marketing and digital works of art. Students will examine contemporary art and artists. They will then create their own versions of contemporary art based on the artist they choose to research. (List of artists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_contemporary_artists) On this list of contemporary artists, there are several different types of artists that students may have never heard of or have heard of the type of art they create. For example, Banksy is a graffiti artist. Students that are good with “tagging” or interested in creating their art differently would easily find an artist that they can relate to.

  8. Overview of Lesson Unit There are also different types of artists such as installation artists, conceptual artists, sculptors, photographers, painters and interactive artists. This wide variety alone should be interesting to students. Each student will have time to research the artists and choose the one that they would most like to research further, create a presentation about and recreate that artist’s work utilizing Adobe Photoshop or a graphics manipulation software. Once the research, presentations and works of art are completed, the students will create and host a Contemporary Art Museum in their classroom.

Contemporary Art Museum:TechnologyRequirements • Computers with Internet Access • Microsoft Power Point Software • Microsoft Word Software • Graphics Software such as Adobe Photoshop or GIMP (free) • Photo Story 3 Software (free) • Wiki or PBworks Website for Virtual Museum (free) • Digital Camera • Social Bookmarking Site such as Diigo (free) • Blog Site such as Blogger (free) • Headset with Microphone • Projector Set Up for Presentations • Xbox Game Controller (if possible – not required) • Scanner (if possible – not required) GIMP

  10. Contemporary Art Museum:Responsibilities Each class period will be creating a contemporary art museum. Students must research several ideas such as the following: • What is contemporary art? • What is the difference between fine art and contemporary art? • Who are contemporary artists? Each student will be responsible for the following: • Museum Logo • Blog Entries • Participation in Group • Participation in Class • Research Over Contemporary Art and Contemporary Artists • Power Point Presentation Over Selected Artist • Three Contemporary Works of Art that Mimic Work of Selected Artist
