  1. Many people refuse to be responsible, wanting somebody else to be responsible for them. • Many have great freedoms that allow potential fulfillment in life – yet they live irresponsible lives. • Some view their life as something that they have little or no control over.

  2. “Standing on your own two Feet”

Personal responsibility before God… • “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Cor 5:10, NKJV) • But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11For it is written: "As I live, says the Lord,Every knee shall bow to Me,And every tongue shall confess to God.” (Romans 14:10-11, NKJV)

  4. Personal responsibility before God… • “The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.” (Ezek 18:20, NKJV) • Romans 12:1-2, Do not be conformed to this world. • “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.” (John 12:48, NKJV)

How to take responsibility for your own life… • Joshua 24:15, Make the decision to do what is right! • “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Prov 22:6, NKJV) • “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16, NKJV)

  6. How to take responsibility: Be honest with yourself • “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you are disqualified.” (2 Cor 13:5, NKJV) • “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22, NKJV) • 1John 1:8-10, Acknowledge your sins and take responsibility. • Acts 21:10-14, Face the challenges before you! • Hebrews 4:12-13, Allow yourself to be opened and exposed by the word of God for what you truly are.

How to take responsibility: Stand on your own two feet • Galatians 6:1-5: Although we need help from time to time, each Christian must learn to carry his own load for the Lord. • “Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Phil 1:27, NKJV) • “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12, NKJV)

  8. How to take responsibility: Persevere • Those who take responsibility for their own life persevere until their have completed what matters most! • Hebrews 12:1, Let us run with endurance! • Hebrews 10:36-39, Do not cast away your reward by giving up!

  9. What does it take to stand for the Lord? • Believe the Lord & His Word! • Hebrews 3:12 - 4:2: Too often we do not responsibly fulfill God’s commands because really-- we do not believe in them! Our hearts are not convicted! • “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed itnot as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” (1 Thess 2:13, NKJV)

What does it take to stand for the Lord? • Trust in the Lord! • Psalm 27:1-3: Put your trust in the Lord even when being persecuted. • “And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God” (2 Cor 3:4-5, NKJV)

  11. What does it take to stand for the Lord? • Love the Lord! • 2 Corinthians 5:14-15: Being responsible for the Lord will stem from your love for Him. • 2 Timothy 4:7-8: Are you willing to fight for the Lord?

  12. What does it take to stand for the Lord? • Be resolved to put the Lord first! • “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matt 10:37, NKJV) • “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.” (Gal 1:10, NKJV) • “Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.” (Romans 14:4, NKJV)

  13. We must all take personal responsibility before God. • We will be judged individually • We cannot ride anyone else’s coat-tails into heaven. • You must be willing to take responsibility for your life. • Learn how to stand on your own two feet. • It is essential that you persevere. • Be honest in examining yourself. • Make the decision to do what is right!
