  2. Music Department • The Music Department was established in 1996 as one of the four departments in the Faculty of Human Ecology. The department focuses not only on performance but also prepares students with various research skills. Students are encouraged to develop their talent in music performance, music technology, music education, musicology/ethnomusicology, composition and music therapy. The programme aims at producing academicians and competent, knowledgeable and skilful musicians at graduate and postgraduate levels.The goals of the department are: • to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, skilful and experienced as specialists in the field of music on international level; • to conduct research and produce publications on various aspects of music, sound and acoustic environment including local aspects; • to provide consultation services in the field of music to government and private bodies especially educational institutes at the local and regional level; • to become a centre of academic exchange on issues of music cultures in Malaysia and in the world. • Objektif Program • Melahirkangraduan yang mempunyaikemahirandanpengetahuan yang mencukupidalambidangpersembahanmuzikuntukmembolehkanmerekamenceburidiridalamindustrimuzik. • Membentukgraduan yang beretika, bersikapprofesionaldanmampubersaingdalamkerjayamuzik. • Melahirkangraduan yang sensitifdanbertanggungjawabterhadapkeperluanmasyarakatpelbagaibudayadanpersekitaran global.

New Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Music (Performance) MINIMUM REQUIREMENT (SPM holders) · STPM with at least NGNU 2.00 · Associated British Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Grade 5 (Practice & Theory) or equivalent. · Diploma in Music, Malaysian Institute of Arts; · Diploma ( Muzik) dariAkademiSeniBudayadanWarisanKebangsaan (ASWARA); · Music Diploma of UniversitiTeknologi MARA (UiTM)’ · Diploma in Music, SEGI University College; · Diploma in Business (Music Industry), International College of Music; · Diploma in Music Studies, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (IMH Academy) · Diploma in Music, Yamaha Music School Malaysia; · Professional Diploma in Audio Engineering, Ocean Institute of Audio Engineering; · Diploma from KolejTunku Abdul Rahman, HELP University College & Taylor's University College; · Diploma Perguruan (Music), from the Malaysian Ministry of Education. PRASISWAZAH   Bacelor Muzik (Persembahan) Program Bacelor Muzik (Persembahan) mencakupi pelbagai kursus memberi penekanan kepada Persembahan Muzik, dengan tujuan melahirkan pemuzik profesional yang berkemahiran dan berpengetahuan. Selain itu, pelajar juga dapat menganggotai Orkestra, Koir, Kumpulan Gamelan, Kumpulan Jazz dan lain-lain. Jabatan juga menyediakan makmal multimedia, makmal teknologi muzik, studio rakaman, makmal pendidikan muzik, makmal gamelan, makmal piano, makmal alat muzik bass, makmal perkusi dan dewan latihan orkestra serta bilik-bilik latihan instrumental untuk memudahkan pembelajaran muzik sesuai dengan kehendak pembelajaran semasa. Melalui program ini, graduan-graduan dalam bidang muzik yang bertaraf antarabangsa dapat dilahirkan. • PENGAJIAN SISWAZAH •  Master Sains (Muzik) • Program Master Sains (Muzik) ini mendedahkan pelajar kepada konsep dan kaedah dalam penyelidikan muzik, yang mana pelajar akan mengkaji secara mendalam terhadap satu aspek muzik yang tertentu. • Secara amnya, program ini memberi penekanan kepada hubungan antara muzik dengan masyarakat. Ini meliputi pengajian isu-isu muzik yang berkaitan dengan pendidikan muzik dan masalah sosial (psikologi dan sosiologi muzik); pengajian terhadap kaedah untuk mengaplikasikan muzik rakyat dan tradisional ke dalam masyarakat semasa (muzikologi gunaan); dan pengajian terhadap komposisi muzik seni dari masa dan tempat yang berlainan (analisis gaya komposisi). • Program ini adalah sesuai diikuti oleh pensyarah muzik maktab atau kolej, guru muzik sekolah, instruktor muzik di sekolah swasta, pentadbir muzik dan pentadbir kebudayaan di mana-mana badan kerajaan atau swasta. Bakal graduan dari program ini akan berkeupayaan untuk menjadi penyelidik, pensyarah, pentadbir dalam bidang muzik, seni atau kebudayaan di sekolah, maktab, kolej, badan kerajaan atau swasta.

  6. PhD (Music) offers a way to the highest qualification on international level in the field of music and musicology. With five potential supervisors, UPM serves a wide range of specialisations. Publications and conference attendances are one important part of the process as well as weekly meetings, a close contact to music practice and various types of fieldwork. Music Department’s open activities Weekly lunch concert: students introduce and develop their repertoires Weekly postgraduate meeting: postgraduate students and academic staff discuss research on music, share interdisciplinary knowledge, introduce methods and research tools Yearly International Colloquium on Music Research: International and Malaysian academicians present papers on yearly changing topics such as ‘Preserving Creativity in Music Practice’, ‘Music and Memory’, ‘Music and Dance in/as Environment’, ‘Music and Mind’. Yearly performances: examsof final year students, UPM Orchestra, Choir, Jazz groups, Gamelan groups, and other traditional music groups. Occasionally: workshops with musicians and composers, action days for schools, lectures of visiting music researchers and experienced performers, studio recordings of new compositions.

  9. Over 5,000 audiovisual recordings in the Audiovisual Resource Centre for the Performing Arts of the Music Department are accessible on site (Music House 1). They consists of field recordings, recordings of performances, UPM studio recordings, deposit collections of other research institutions and rare recordings in duplicates.
