Mrs. Kerly’s Class 9,2013 A Note from Mrs. Kerly Important Reminders Media Center and Accelerated Reader: Our class had their first chance to visit the media center last week and we are now able to check out books! Please be sure to keep reading at home each night. I would like to push students to start reading chapter books at school and at home that are within their reading range. I will be working with the students to help guide them towards books that are at their reading level that might be of interest to them. Along those lines, we are off to a great start with AR! As of Friday your child has __________ AR points. Keep on reading!!!!! Upcoming dates to know: Friday, Sept. 13- No School for students Wednesday, Sept. 18- Interims issued Friday, Sept. 20- Picture Day! Tuesday, Sept. 24- Open House (1st, 3rd & 5th grade) 6:30-7:30 p.m. Parent Volunteers Please let me know if you would like to come in and volunteer. I have spoken with many of you and would like to start scheduling parents/grandparents who would like to come in. Please email me or write me a note and we will plan a time and day for you to come in! *We are collecting BoxTops this month. Please send them in if you have them. Thanks! What We’re Learning… Language Arts Math Science & Social Studies We are reading a novel together in class called “There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom!” and the children are really enjoying it. Please ask your child to tell you about the story so far. We are also working on Text Features this week in language arts. We will be finishing up Topic 1 on Numeration this week. Please note that we will have our Topic 1 Math Test on Wednesday!!! Please be sure to review the topic with your child on Tuesday night. Science: We are working on a unit about manatees. Social Studies: We are working on landforms and weather and climates.
