  17. George Washington 1732-1799 Colonel The War that Made America Washington and his two brothers were members of the Ohio Company of Virginia. George had surveyed the Virginia frontier and latter became an envoy to the French. Gov. Dinwiddie appointed him Lt. Colonel of the Virginia Regiment charged with expelling the French from the Forks of the Ohio. His mission ended in defeat and sparked an already tense situation into war. Identity Card
