  1. Evaluation of media product Rocharna McNaughton

  2. How did you attract/address your audience?

  3. Techniques used to attract audience • The front cover has a band that has female and male members. This attracted my audience because this is a unisex magazine however it more targeted at males which is reflected by two males on the front cover and one female. • Yellow is seen as gender neutral as well as red, however the use of black would attract more males than females and also a rock audience as there known for wearing dark colours. • My band on the front cover represents the same demographics as my target audience for GTAR magazine – attract them as my audience are more able to identify with the magazine more. • The style of writing bold and looks similar to “bubble writing” which is commonly used as a creative style of writing attracts my audience as it attracts young people that want to rebel • Free give away which addresses my audience because my typical reader loves to attend concerts.

  4. Techniques used to Address audience • Addressed through types of articles such as live tours and album reviews – my audience like to go on tour and attend concerts therefore will love to hear about concerts that they were unable to go to. • Current rock bands such as Gas Club and Artic Monkeys – this has a strong male fan base already and therefore fans will turn to this magazine to be updates. • Using direct address with my audience such as saying words like “you” and “we” which makes the readers feel more included and gives them a personalized feel • CD, iTunes, Spotify– Using list of three to address my audience and keep them entertained whilst reading • “Can they pull it off?” I used a short rhetorical question to address my audience

  5. Manipulated representations to attract/address audience • I manipulated the clothes of my band in order to attract a young audience. E.g. the band dressed up in clothes from retailers like TopShop (like in my audience profile) which reflects and addresses my readers because they can aspire to look like their favourite artist. • I manipulated the make up that the band wore. Sarah McIntosh (Paris) wore quite dark red lip stick and black eyeliner which addressed a rock and indie audience because it conformed to the stereotype that rock and indie fans love dark colours. Therefore attracts • Hamish McIntosh is wearing big glasses, this is a typical trend in 2012/13 which reinforces the idea of individuality where being a “geek” or a “nerd” is seen to be “cool” because you are viewed as different. Which addresses and attracts an audience that views themselves as unique and rebellious

  6. How I select content • Using the findings from my primary research from my research and planning and also secondary research. I was able to see what my typical audience’s hobbies, interests and dislikes. - I released that my secondary research was obtained from the search engine Google and was very general however because my magazine will start off in London I did primary research to find out more specific information about my London target market • Using existing magazines such as NME and KERRANG I was able to see what artists where in the publics interest when creating this magazine. • Twitter – using twitter helped me to select content for the magazine and helped me to see hot new topics of the week by simply using a hastag “#” and then ‘The good natured’ or any other indie band that I wanted to obtain information on. Doing this helped me to see what particular person was interested in the band and I was able to guess their age/ethnicity/gender due to their display picture.
