Designations Timeline: 2006 PM2.5 Standard Milestone Date State/Tribal recommendations Dec. 18, 2007 (based on ’04-’06 data) EPA Response Governors notified August 19, 2008 (based on ’05-’07 data) (120 days prior to final designations) States/Tribes may provide Prior to final designations additional comments Final Designations No later than Dec. 18, 2008* * If the EPA Administrator determines that there is insufficient information to make final designations, then the date of final designations may be extended by up to one year but no later than December 18, 2009.

Early Action Compacts • 4/2/08 (effective 4/15/08) – Final rule designating 13 EAC areas attainment for the 1997 8-hour ozone standard. • All 8 Region 4 EAC areas designated attainment. • Effective 4/15/09, transportation conformity for ozone no longer applies for Greensboro or Nashville. • A decision to conduct another EAC program for the 2008 standard is still under evaluation

Designations Timeline: 2008 8-Hour Ozone Standard Date Milestone State/Tribal recommendations due March 12, 2009 EPA Response No later than November 12, 2009 (120 days prior to final designations) States/Tribes may provide Prior to final designations additional comments Final Designations No later than March 12, 2010* * If the EPA Administrator determines that there is insufficient information to make final designations, then the date of final designations may be extended by up to one year but no later than March 12, 2011.

NAAQS Outreach & Other Tools • Collaborative effort with Region 4 state & local air quality agencies & other stakeholders. • Focus is to work together to proactively develop strategies to reduce emissions in areas that are violating the NAAQS and/or are close to violating the NAAQS. • Current NAAQS of interest are PM2.5, ozone & lead. • Evaluating potential to establish a: • clearinghouse to share materials among collaborative members; & • expand current control measure tracking system.
