  1. Akhilesh Srivastava - Redefining the Highways Sector Akhilesh Srivastava, the Chief General Manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is redefining the highways sector by supervising the construction of the NHAI’s cluster projects such as Wayside Amenities (WSAs). Akhilesh Srivastava launched the Wayside Amenities project to improve motorists’ experience on highways and modernise highway infrastructure. To this end, Srivastava is implementing three structures to facilitate basic, moderate and advanced amenities to highway users. Under the mega plan of Wayside Amenities project, Srivastava proposed to provide amenities such as branded restaurants, round-the-clock fuel stations, ATMs, kiosks for eatery, restrooms, parking lots, helipads and a ton more through three separate sub-structures. The first leg of the Wayside Amenities project is the Highway Nest (Mini) which will facilitate civic amenities such as drinking water, ATMs, and other amenities alongside highways. With the assistance of the NHAI, Srivastava is implementing the Highway Nest (Mini) across the major national highways. The second sub-structure of Wayside Amenities is the Highway Village, which is being planned constructed on 183 NHAI-owned sites under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Highway Village will serve advanced amenities to highway commuters on a larger scale. The third sub-structure of Wayside Amenities is the Highway Nest. Srivastava is implementing the third substructure in compliance with the global standards by providing facilities such as helipad systems. The Highway Village will spread over a larger area when compared to the first two substructures and it is being constructed across 1,000 places along the National Highways. The NHAI CGM is revolutionising the commuter’s journey and modernising the highways sector in the country. Removing the bottlenecks in the country’s arterial network, the Wayside Amenities project allows seamless travel for commuters on the national highways. Akhilesh Srivastava is complementing the Government of India’s Digital India motto through his mobile highway utility application - Sukhad Yatra. The built-in features of the application allow users to locate nearby places like highways, restaurants, ATMs, and other wayside amenities on highways. It also enables motorists to pay their Tolls electronically, report the highway issues directly to the NHAI administers and give feedback on the highway system. Srivastava opines that the mobile highway utility allows the authorities to understand the public concerns and grievances on highways. CGM of the NHAI, Srivastava, for the digital recording of road assets, is working towards the utilisation of Road Asset Management software. Srivastava also introduced smart Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in the Highways Network of India. Srivastava introduced LiDAR and industrial drones to get detailed information on projects. Also, he launched 24X7 National Highways Helpline - 1033 - to safeguard highway commuter’s journey.

  2. The MoRTH and Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) applauded Srivastava for his contribution in building the nation. Srivastava won the CIDC lifetime achievement award for his outstanding performance in the construction industry. He was also promoted to take care of new verticals within his division. CGM of the NHAI has dedicated more than a decade of his life in working to improve road infrastructure in the country. Currently, Srivastava is spearheading several other projects such as Bharatmala Pariyojana to streamline all the highway projects. #AkhileshSrivastava #HighwaysSector #NHAI #WaysideAmenities
