  4. 1994~1996 • Apr 1994, NCFC opened a 64K international dedicated line to Internet for the first time • May 1994, China set up its first web server and made the first set of web pages • May 1994, China opened its first Bulletin Board System (BBS) in Chinese mainland • July 1995, China’s first 128K leased line that connects to the United States was opened by CERNET . 8 cities were connected at the rate of 64Kbps • Mar 1996, China submitted its first RFC (RFC1922) about Chinese character coding • Nov 1996, CERNET opened its 2M link to US, and also connected with DFN of Germany, which is the first link to Europe 1994-2004 Asia Pacific Networking Group All Copy Right Reserved

  5. 1997~2000 • Jun 1997, China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC) was founded • Oct 1997, China's first national Internet backbone, ChinaNet, realized the connection with other three backbone networks -- CSTNet, CERNET and CHINAGBN • Jun 1998, CERNET joined the trial network of next generation 6BONE • Sep 2000, DRAGONTAP, the first domestic exchange center of next generation Internet was constructed in Tsinghua University. Three domestic backbone networks were connected to STARTAP in LA and APAN exchange center in Tokyo via 10Mbps links • Sep 2000, CERNIC of CERNET firstly provided IPv6 assignment service in China • Nov 2000, CNNIC initiated the registration service of Chinese domain names 1994-2004 Asia Pacific Networking Group All Copy Right Reserved
