  1. TASK 1: European Curricula in Electrical and Information Engineering THEIERE partners and EAEEIE members Club EEA Commissions for teaching & International Relationships Wien, 6th December 2002

  2. Context, aim Present results Information available: questionnaire done Present state of the report Missing information Other points to add => discussion Way to disseminate (4th year of THEIERE?) Plan

  3. Questions: What are the equivalencies between Diplomas in Electrical Engineering in Europe ? Complicated answer… Does exist any equivalent "levels" ? Possible answer: Compare existing European Higher Education Schemes and try to identify Electrical Engineering Curricula… Our Objectives

  4. Publishing a report, "Electrical and Information Engineering in Europe, an overview" 1st part State of the art: what is EIE? Its borders? Available institutions, curricula, diploma, accreditation procedures... 2nd part implementation of 358, state of the reflections and implementation within the various European countries proposition of common curricula, of a guideline for common curricula ? Aim

  5. Questionnaire of 2001 (1st year THEIERE) "First degree in electrical and information engineering" and "doctoral degree in electrical and information engineering" Name of the degree Duration of studies, languages Course structure Course monitoring of assessment Use of ICT in teaching and learning Student participation in the department Questionnaire on November 2001 "State of implementation of 358 in your country" to THEIERE and EAEEIE members Questionnaire in 2002 (2nd year THEIERE): What does EIE mean in your country? What are the "borders"? List of diplomas in EIE (see schemes proposed during the 1st year of the project): 2 years after secondary school (technician), Bachelor, 4 years after secondary school, Master, Doctorates List of Universities (where the diplomas above are proposed, number of diplomas given per year) Pedagogical content of the diplomas (who does define the content?) Questionnaire Skien Final users What is missing in the intermediate report How to disseminate? Label name for EIE in your country Information available: questionnaires done

  6. Presentation (AFTER) 1ST PART : EIE in Europe Introduction (AFTER, presently 4 pages) EIE (ON THE WAY) to be added: kind of institutions existing in Europe Classical universities, enabled to deliver the doctorate, Technological universities and engineering school, enabled to deliver the doctorate Technological schools (Fachhochschule/University of Applied Sciences) which students graduate at an intermediary level (4 years after secondary school). These schools are not enabled to deliver the doctorate. "Short technological" institutes, with professional purposes Survey: EIE in Europe (see next page) Synthesis: various accreditation modes for EIE diploma in Europe (ON THE WAY) 2ND PART: 358 in EIE Actual implementation of 358 in Europe (TO BE UPDATED + DATA FROM SEFI ALSO) Countries presently using 358 (replaces previous curricula and diploma) Countries in where 358 is not implemented yet but with some strong political incitement Countries which are reflecting about Countries which observes (or which seem less concerned) Reflections on the recognition of "new" diploma (national recognition, European recognition, recognition by industry, accreditation modes) Some papers on 358 (extracted from EAEEIE conferences => to be prepared) Guidelines for a common curricula, common curricula samples ? Present state of the report (1/3)

  7. 1. General information (half a page scheme of higher education system (update of the schemes 1st year THEIERE) + half a page of text) 2. Meaning of EIE in the country? Borders? 3. List of diploma in EIE 4. Pedagogical contents, accreditation procedures 5. Present situation of 358 implementation in EIE 6. List of institutions in the field of EIE 7. References Present state of the report (2/3):survey about EIE in Europe=> national levels • Some figures about students in Germany => help in identifying what is the weight of EIE in your country ?

  8. Sec. School +3 Sec. School +5 European scheme in Electricaland Information Engineering? Bachelor Master 17-18-19 +1 +2 +3 +4 +5 Engineering study (5 years integrated) Doctorat Universities Bachelor (3 years) Master (Bachelor + 2) 4 years (industrial engineer) => 5 years master? Polytechnics 4 years (industrial engineer) => Prof. Bachelor +1 ? Technician (2 or 3 years) Technician 3 years=professional bachelor?

  9. Austria Belgium (Flemish) Bulgaria Czech Rep. Deutschland Estonia España Finland France Hungary (new partner) Ireland Present state of the report (3/3) • Belgium (Walloon) • Danmark • Latvia (partly) • Nederland (partly) • Romania • Slovenia • Sweden • United Kingdom • Italia • Latvia (partly) • Lithuania • Luxembourg • Nederland (partly) • Norge • Polska • Portugal • Slovakia • Ukraine Available, to check and update Missing !!

  10. Works to achieve (1/2)What is still missing? End JANUARY 2003 STATISTICS • PhD • Number of students (idea : to show what is the "weight" of EIE in Europe) • Contents of these curricula (are there some programmes defined at the national, or regional, levels by some commissions?) • Relationships with organisations at the national levels (to have in which country a working group to help in the work, as it is done with Club EEA for instance) • Relationships with other broader European organisations (EAIE European Association for International Education?, French-Dutch Universities Network, SEFI...) • Other points, to discuss...

  11. Try to find some "common" curricula Propose a scheme for some bachelors (3 years) in our specialities (computer, electronics, automatic control…) Propose a scheme for some masters (5 years) in our speciality What is the interest to keep some curricula/diploma outside the 358 scheme? Follow the reflection done during INEIT-MUCON ("the minimum as an engineer has to know") emerging disciplines new pedagogy indispensable fundamentals behavioural skills evaluation methods Helpful for colleagues who wants to organise new studies with a European view... Works to achieve (2/2)Is it possible to make some propositions for the implementation of 358 in EIE in Europe ? FEBRUARY 2003 PUBLICATION OF THE REPORT, JUNE 2003

  12. Available from http://www.eaeeie.org/theiere/task1/persons.html http://www.eaeeie.org/theiere/task1/persons.html Way to work... THEIERE responsibles and Club EEA correspondents • A working group per country (with an animator => connections with national associations, national professional bodies) • Groups of persons who accept to work on connections with other European associations (EAIE, other association or European professional bodies ?)

  13. A published report A web site (portal), presenting EIE in Europe kind of diploma per country links with existing servers Way to disseminate An engineering student in training period, from Vigo, in Nancy => we will need the participation of everybody...

  14. Danke schön Let's discuss!
