Upgrades For Run9 | PHENIX, BNL HBD HV Control System HBD Meeting :: June 16th, 2009 RESOURCES OF INFORMATION • The HBD HV Server possess a very stable and precisely timed HV data backup process, which clearly stands out of the crowd, as it stores the complete status of every 1471N module every 7 seconds (esp. for TripProtect) as well as HV Control internal activities by system request from the control core. The entire system has been extremely crash tested and is very reliable. • Blaming this system for RANDOM fluctuation in module gain is the wrong approach to this issue! • All this HV information is publically available in our database: hvdb • In terms of gain, all runs that have successfully passed OnCal are stored in the Phenix database. Upgrades For Run9 | PHENIX, BNL HBD HV Control System HBD Meeting :: June 16th, 2009 THE BASELINE FOR FURTHER STUDIES • A very different program is currently running for the past 33 hours to analyze the entire data from Run-9 and automatically generates a new database that will provide the baseline for further studies; in particular with the purpose to determine if our idea of a gain correction curve based on P/T has to be “slightly” adjusted in order to guarantee more stable performance in Run-10. The completion of this database is expected to be today, 06/16 at 2:30pm. Access tools for the Web as well as command line will be provided shortly after… • Higher P/T: lower Gain --- Lower P/T: higher Gain • In order to follow these P/T variation, we adjust the HV, which is in theory absolutely correct… However, as we’ve seen multiple times in Bob’s lab: Adjusting the HV results moreover (easily) in “over-adjusting” the Gain. • On the other hand, gain can also change without any change in HV!
