  4. Objectives • Explain the importance of using a systems development methodology • List the five phases of the SDLC. • Describe the purpose of each phase. • List the major challenges to systems development. • Discuss examination procedures.

  5. The Case Scenario • Congratulations! Your firm has been hired by the Blacksburg City Council to compete for the contract to build six new downtown buildings. For the initial meeting with the City Council, you are to build a free-standing prototype.

  6. Requirements • The prototype must be free-standing. • Your company will receive $20,000 if the building prototype reaches 3 yards. • Each piece used after 10 pieces will cost your company $1,000. • Your company has 20 minutes to complete the prototype. • The company with the highest dollar value building will win the contract.

  7. Forming Groups • Form a group (aka, a company) of 3-5 members. • Send one member to get a bag of Zome toys. • Please be careful with the toys and try to get all the pieces back in the bag when we are finished with the activity. • You may work anywhere in the room: desk, aisles, stage, atrium, hallway.
