  1. THE SHEPHERD AND THE SHEEP JOHN 10 AND 11

  2. The Shepherd The Sheep The Shepherd’s voice

  3. The intent of the Shepherd is the good of His sheep • The true Shepherd announces Himself to the sheep • The true Shepherd knows His sheep and calls them by name • The true Shepherd leads His sheep out and they follow Him

  4. PSALM 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

  5. The true Shepherd The true Shepherd is fully concerned about the welfare of the sheep.

  6. 2 Peter 2:1-2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

  7. The fake Shepherds • Lead the sheep to destruction 2. Are deceptive 3. Deny the true Shepherd

  8. V7. …I am the door of the sheep V8. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them V9. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture V10. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

  9. The True Shepherd is a giver of eternal life to the sheep through His salvation. • The fake shepherd comes to steal the sheep from the eternal life.

  10. The Sheep V1 They are in the sheepfold V4 The sheep follow Him because they know His voice V5 They flee from strangers V14 The know the good Shepherd V27 The Sheep hear His voice and they follow Him V28 His sheep shall never perish

  11. Psalm 91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge;

  12. Anything that comes to you, not with the aim of moving you closer to Jesus but away from Him, is that stranger, that thief, who comes to kill you, steal from you and destroy you.

  13. ‘We reveal our natural hostility for God by the low esteem we have for Him. We consider Him unworthy of our total devotion. We take no delight in contemplating Him. Even for the Christian, worship is often difficult and prayer a burdensome duty. Our natural tendency is to flee as far as possible from His presence. His word rebounds from our minds like a basketball from a blackboard’. R C Sproul, “The Holiness of God”

  14. As a sheep, you must take time in the presence of the true Shepherd so that when He leads or when He calls, you are quick to recognize and follow His voice.

  15. You are follower (sheep) of Jesus when you believe in Him, align your life to Him and recognize anything outside of Him is a stranger to you.

  16. The Voice V3. They hear his voice V.4 They know his voice V.5 They do not know the voice of strangers V.16…and they will hear My voice V.27 My sheep hear My voice

  17. Can you see God’s voice?

  18. ‘Everyone of us has had experiences which we have not been able to explain: a sudden sense of loneliness, or a feeling of wonder or awe in the face of the universal vastness. Or we have had a fleeting visitation of light like an illumination from some other sun, giving us in a quick flash an assurance that we are from another world, that our origins are divine. What we saw there, or felt, or heard, may have been contrary to all that we had been taught in the schools and at wide variance with all our formed beliefs and opinions. We were forced to suspend our acquired doubts while, for a moment, the clouds were rolled back and we saw and heard for ourselves. Explain such things as we will, I think we have not been fair to the facts until we allow at least the possibility that such experiences may arise from the Presence of God in the world and His persistent effort to communicate with mankind.’ A W Tozer, “The Pursuit of God”
