  2. It is a movement from late 18th century to mid 19th century that was against the Enlightenment and rationalism of nature. While appreciating the nature, It emphasized strong emotions, supernatural, imagination and examines humans’ psychology. The movement stimulated people to desire a freedom from strict rules that constrained their lives. Romanticism

  3. Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter provides many mysterious scenes and profound quotes that are related to human nature. For example, “It is to the credit of human nature, that, except where its selfishness is brought into play, it loves more readily than it hates. Hatred, by a gradual and quiet process, will even be transformed to love, unless the change be impeded by a continually new irritation of the original feeling of hostility.” (Chapter XIII "Another View of Hester) The quote analyzes humans 'psychology and suggests that humans are irrational.   4. One of the most famous paintings, Liberty Leading the people (1830) , by praising those who participated the French Revolution shows Heroism. The god of liberty makes this painting to look supernatural too. Eugene Delacroix

  7. It is a movement in 19th century that believes an idealistic system of thoughts. The movement valued goodness of men, experience and truth more than logic. It also had social movements for better living environments, women and workers. transcendentalism

  11. Daniel Chester French sculpted the Minute Man and the Lincoln Memorial that are treasures of America. He was close to Ralph Waldo Emerson. Instead of having an decorative look, French’s works were simple and realistic. The Minute Man was created to commemorate the American Revolutionary War.   12. It is a women’s fight against laws that hindered women from being socially active. It happened with the Enlightenment asking for rights to vote, equality and same liberty as men. It was a big social issue that was on debate in 19th century and is still controversial even in 21st century. Feminism

I can't make it more clear; it's only something I can beginning to comprehend, which is revealing itself to me.” The quote describes a woman who tries to acknowledge herself as the way she is instead of someone’s mother or wife. Moreover, it was a complicated issue in America because not only the south was based on agriculture, but also most of the slaves in the country were domestic slaves. The movement began with persuasion, it ended by forcing people to follow laws. Abolitionism

  18. The Uncle Tom’s Cabin is one of the most famous antislavery novel. Its impact in America was enormous. It describes sufferings that black slaves had under slavery system. It also depicts black people’s strong emotions for example, sorrows and inferior lives under their masters very well.   20. Music was one of the most important factors for anti-slavery movement. Lyrics of their songs were spiritual, hoping God to save them from slavery. A form of the music were often affected by their environment. Thus, it frequently changed. For example, before 1865, they were inspired by African music.   21. The Bible Quilt – Powers created numerous bible quilts. These quilts have biblical and celestial scenes that are mysterious. Each quilt has a story; however, it is difficult to know what it means. There are assumptions that uneven squares are similar to syncopation of African American music. Harriet Powers

It was believed that wealthy people are the those who should be deserved not underclassmen.
