Reminder when doing fieldwork in coastal environment • Fieldwork safety • Keep well away from cliff tops, especially in wet and windy conditions • Avoid working near the base of steep cliffs – wear a hard hat if appropriate • If you are going to measure waves, make sure your students do it from a safe and secure position where they are protected from largest waves. • Take special care on wet and slippery rocks on the beach foreshore at low tide. • Be aware of the tides and never wade around a headland unless the tide is going out

  6. Resources: Paper maps are essential • Time: Some coastal studies look at temporal variations in processes along a stretch of coast, as well as the spatial changes in particular features or systems. This means that your students may need to revisit the sites.
