Security, privacy & ethics • Using technology in the best interest of society. • Security issue, personal ownership & ethics are very important in business. • Development in IT has caused IT to be easily accessible & used. • Therefore KWs must protect the security of the information & ensure that customer’s rights are not misused!

  5. IT as a tool that enables any changes in business • IT is very important to organizations. • IT is used to make a lot of changes in an organization process & administration. Example: Manual process Automated process Attendance system Attendance record IT

  6. Business convergence & IT planning • The success of organization in the future depends on the organizations effort in producing a business plan along with the Information Technology. Developed together Business Planning + = Information Technology Success

  7. IT as a tool for making business • In the future IT will be used as a tool that will allow organization to do any kind of business activities, • Thus the businessmen need IT to run the business. To do business uses Any form of business IT

  8. Strategy that focuses on organizational structure Strategies of organizational strengths are: Group • A team of individuals sharing same objective, motives & independent roles. Information Sharing • An agreement between organizations to share information to improve strengths. Timeless & location-less operation • Business operation that can happen at any time or place.

Virtual Organization • The use of IT such as networking that helps in sharing technology, expertise, cost or reaching a wider business market. Learning organization • Organization where people will always learn something new & making changes making changes according to what is learned.

Be in any department & doing any work • KW work in all kind of business & perform all kind of tasks. • Their job is to generate information to be a product or service. • Information is the foundation to business, therefore KW’s are the most valuable asset to a business. KW must have basic skills KW must have basic skill in: • Communication • Skill on how to present the information to others • Interpersonal • Skill on how to work with others / bigger group • Decision making • Skill for problem analysis & solving • Project Management & Time • Skill for managing time to carry out project.

  13. KW to have IT skill • Organizations prefers their workers to have basic IT skills or computer knowledge. • They should know how to use certain software, use the network & send / receive emails.

  14. KW to collect data. • KW to have a lot of knowledge in many fields. • They are required to be quite good in making decision & can manage their time & project efficiently. • They should know how to get the information they need, from whom and to process in into which form.

  15. KW to become a system developer • KWs who have IT knowledge in using software like PowerBuilder, Visual Basic etc may develop a system or become system developer.

  16. KW become a telecommuter • In future KW can become telecommuters & do their work from home. • KW can become telecommuter as they can communicate via email, group software, video conferencing etc.

  17. KW need to understand the business process KW need to understand the business process of the organization and specialized in only one of the process. So that they can be expert in that chosen process.

Knowledge workers will be known as a worker • A lot of companies nowdays, claims that their people are knowledge workers. • In the future knowledge worker term will be changed to ‘worker’ • However the tasks they performs remains the same which is to change information into a service or product.

Using technology in the future • Technology is something that will change in short period of time, therefore one have to analyze it throughly how the technology operates & how the business uses them. • Technology changes can be seen in 3 ways: • Changes in using information technology system. • Changes on how organization develops & access the information. • Changes in networking.

  20. Changes in using IT system Among the changes are: • Customer Integrated System & Group (CIS) – customer pay bills online. Organization uses Workgroup for sharing online information, virtual organization & expand business globally • Artificial Intelligence (AI) – intelligence of a machine that mimics human’s ability • Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) - structured transmission of data between organizations by electronic means

Changes in using it system • Executive Information System (EIS) – a decision making tool that supports the needs of senior executives by providing access to both internal & external relevant information • A new system will be developed – a new system will be developed in the future based from the many existed system & its information. (ie, ATM which combines CIS<cash withdrawal>, MIS<list of last ten transactions> & EDI<to update & store data>

Changes on how the organization develop & access the information Among the changes that had happened are: • Database – in future all organizations will use database to manage & access data. • Data warehouse – a repository of the organization’s electronically stored data. • New technology to store the information – in future new technology is needed to store the excessive data. • Database & Data Warehouse – new software will be developed to enable users have database & data warehouse easily.

  23. Changes in networking Among the changes are: • Client/server will control the network structure • Network expansion • Organization will sue intranet to communicate with customers.
