  3. Beautiful buildings and symbols of "Emmeloord" Now I show you a few slides with some Beautiful places in Emmeloord.

  4. The "Poldertoren" De Poldertoren, It used to be the Watertower now it is the symbol of Emmeloord.

  8. The "Lichtboei" This is the symbol of the school the Lichtboei in Emmeloord. Because the name of the school is de Lichtboei they have a lichtboei= a signalling buoy on the schoolyard.

  12. Information of the name: "Emmeloord" Emmeloord borrows its name from the village Emmeloord on the North point of the former island ‘Schokland’. This island lay in the ‘Zuiderzee’. Emmeloord was called Emelwerth. (1478)

  13. "Town Rights" • On September 10th 1992 ,commissioner of the queen prof. of dr. J.A. van Kemenade of Noord-Holland gave town rights to Emmeloord. The commissioner acted for the states of the Netherlands. The surrounding former islands were ‘SchokLand’ and ‘Urk’. They Became a part of it too.

Geography: The institution of the polder one has gone out of one centre place (Emmeloord), and star-shaped connection ways to ten smaller villages; ‘Bant, Creil, Ens, Espel, Kraggenburg, Luttelgeest, Marknesse, Nagele, Rutten and Tollebeek’. The central position of Emmeloord is accentuated by the ‘Poldertoren’. This water tower stands in the geographical centre of the ‘polder’.

  15. District overvieuw: Emmeloord knows several residential areas; -North: The Erven, Water land, Emmelhage -Centre/East: Boten buurt, Ingenieursbuurt, Plantenbuurt , Vogelbuurt -West: Bergenbuurt, Revelsant , Rivierenbuurt, Waterbuurt, Sterrenbuurt -South: The Zuydert

  16. Town development: In 2007, a part of the shopping area ‘Lange Nering’ has been renovated. Entrepreneurs saw for quite some time that the centre impoverished and the turnover decreased. The canopies have been replaced, shops were drawn forward and a number of kiosks in the middle of the street have disappeared. Also ballasting and street furniture have been renewed. Nearly all tradesmen of the ´Lange Nering-Westhave´ cooperated in the implementation of the plans.
