  1. Welcome to Open House! Mrs. Romeo’s 4th Grade Class 2013 - 2014

  2. Mrs. Romeo • Married to a wonderful, supportive husband (who brings me coffee in the middle of the day ) with 3 teenagers! My youngest two attend RMS and MHS in the Appoquinimink School District. My oldest is a freshman in college and 7 hours away, Oh my!  • Highly Qualified and certified to teach K – 6 grade • Passionate about teaching, spending precious time with my family, and setting personal goals for myself, like doing my first full Marathon on November 17th! Mrs. Knox is my inspiration 

  4. PBS (Positive Behavior Support) • Positive behavior support (PBS) is a school wide behavioral management system that recognizes and encourages positive behaviors. PBS establishes clear and consistent expectations and language throughout Brick Mill Elementary School. • Respectful, Responsible, and Ready

  12. Brain Breaks! • We’ve learned that regularly incorporating short movement activities into the instructional day not only allows children to get their ‘wiggles’ out, but energizes them and increases their ability to focus on the next learning activity as well.

Study Island & IXL • Study Island and IXL are Web-based programs designed to help your child master Common Core State Standards in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. • Students have access to these programs at school and at home with internet access. • Weekly assignments will be created to be completed during small group workstations and/or homework.

  17. Band • 4th/5th Grade • Flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone/baritone, and percussion (xylophone and drums) • Pull out program • Students will be pulled out of class to attend lessons during the school day. Students are responsible for all material that they miss.

  18. Orchestra • 4th/5th Grade • Violin, viola, cello • Pull out program • Students will be pulled out of class to attend one 30 minute lesson per week. Students are responsible for all material that they miss.

Homework Policy • Students are expected to have their homework turned in the day it is due • Homework will consist of: • 20 min of reading (daily) • 1 Math assignment or ELA assignment (daily) • 1 weekly Study Island or IXL assignment (assigned at the beginning of each week and due at the end of that week) www.ixl.comwww.studyisland.com

Conferences/Report Cards • Parent conferencing will be arranged for the first two marking periods, the final marking period report card will be sent home with your child on the last day of school. • End of 1st marking period – November 25/26, 2013 • End of 2nd marking period – February 12/13, 2014

  22. Recess • Recess is provided daily • Please make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess • Students may bring balls, jump ropes, etc. from home, but they are responsible for the care

  23. Agenda Books • Agenda books are checked at the beginning of each day to make sure that class assignments are recorded • Please check your child’s agenda book and sign nightly to monitor homework assignments and occasional teacher notes

  24. Friday Folders/Assessment Binder Friday Report is located in Assessment Binder Completed every Friday to keep you updated on your child’s behavior Indicates how responsible, respectful, and ready your child has been all week with home/class work and behavior (no reflection on academic grades). Please sign each week Assessment Binder contains all graded work. There will not be grades for every subject, every week. Please keep all graded work in binder. You will receive all graded work at conference time.

  25. Upcoming Events • September 23: RtI begins • October 24: Fall Family Curriculum Night • Other important dates will be listed in the Data Binder on the first square of the Friday Report
