  6. 1 Optimisation can be achieved only if certain conditions/processes are rigorously followed 2 1 3 4 The collection rounds should be dedicated to Speed Post (especially for urban Sorting Hubs) and not mixed with first class mail This has implications on the number of MMS vehicles required by the Sorting Hub The MMS vehicle should be able to reach the Sorting Hub in time to leave for the next collection round (if any) and also in time for articles to be processed at the Sorting Hub The trip for each MMS vehicle in a collection round should start from the farthest (from Sorting Hub) PO in its route and end with the nearest PO MMS vehicles are the most critical resource in a collection round and should not be kept waiting. POs should keep their Speed Post bags ready when the MMS vehicle is expected to arrive and load them on the vehicle as soon as it arrives POs should close separate bags for TD and NTD articles for the Sorting Hub SOURCE: Mail Network Optimisation Project 5

  8. 3 1 What is the most appropriate flight/ train/road transport for sending Speed Post articles to other Sorting Hubs? 2 3 4 • The objective is to select appropriate flights/trains by which a Sorting Hub sends NTD Speed Post articles to various other Sorting Hubs in order to maximise next day delivery • The earlier the connection, the less the pressure on the destination Sorting Hub and higher the chances of next day delivery of articles • However, if it is too early, the number of articles that can be processed by the origin Sorting Hub might be too low • Therefore the flight/train needs to be selected keeping in mind this trade-off Town 1 PO 1 SPC 1 TMO Town 2 TMO SPC PO 1 SOURCE: Mail Network Optimisation Project

The delivery rounds prescribed above should be dedicated to Speed Post (especially for urban Sorting Hubs) and not mixed with first class mail as far as possible The number of post offices that a MMS trip covers in a delivery round should be such that the MMS vehicle is able to reach the post offices in time to enable the sorting postmen do beat sorting and then enable the postmen to take the articles for delivery 1 Complete benefits of the delivery rounds can be achieved only if these guidelines are followed 2 4 3 4 This has implications on the number of MMS vehicles required by the Sorting Hub SOURCE: Mail Network Optimisation Project
