12. Core 40 withAcademic Honors Diploma The Academic Honors Diploma is awarded to qualifying students graduating from Southport High School. To receive an Academic Honors Diploma, a student must earn forty-seven (47) credits and meet the following requirements:

13. English - nine (9) credits of English 9 a/b; 10 a/b; 11a/b; and 12 a/b. The one (1) remaining credit is Speech. Mathematics – eight (8) credits must include Algebra I a/b; Algebra II a/b; Geometry a/b; and two (2) additional higher level classes. (Must take every year) Science - six (6) credits must include two (2) credits in Biology a/b; two (2) credits in Chemistry a/b, or Physics a/b, or Integrated Chemistry-Physics; and two (2) additional science credits. Social Studies - six (6) credits must include two (2) credits from U.S. History a/b; one (1) credit from Government; one (1) credit from Economics; and two (2) credits from World History a/b or Geography/History of the World a/b. 14. Health – one (1) credit. Beginning Physical Education – two (2) credits. Must complete one (1) of the following: Complete two AP courses (4 credits) and corresponding AP exams. Complete two dual credit courses resulting in six (6) college credits. Complete a combination of one AP course (2 credits) and corresponding AP exams and one dual credit course resulting in three (3) college credits. Score 1750 or higher combined on the SAT critical reading, mathematicsand writing sections with a minimum score of 530 on each. Score a 26 or higher composite on the ACT with completion of the writing section. No grade lower than "C-" may count toward the diploma and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher must be earned. 15. Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • The Technical Honors Diploma is awarded to qualifying students graduating from Southport High School. • To receive a Technical Honors Diploma, a student must earn forty-seven (47) credits and meet the following requirements:

NCAA Division I Initial - Eligibility Requirements Core Courses: (16)  Initial full-time collegiate enrollment on or after August 1, 2016: o Sixteen (16) core courses are required (see chart below for subject-area requirements). § Ten (10) core courses completed before the seventh semester; seven (7) of the 10 must be in English, math or natural/physical science.  These courses/grades are "locked in" at start of the seventh semester (cannot be repeated for grade-point average [GPA] improvement to meet initial-eligibility requirements for competition). o Students who do not meet core-course progression requirements may still be eligible to receive athletics aid and practice in the initial year of enrollment by meeting academic redshirt requirements (see below). Test Scores: (ACT/SAT)  Students must present a corresponding test score and core-course GPA on the sliding scale (see Page No. 2). o SAT: critical reading and math sections. § Best subscore from each section is used to determine the SAT combined score for initial eligibility. o ACT: English, math, reading and science sections. § Best subscore from each section is used to determine the ACT sum score for initial eligibility.  All ACT and SAT attempts before initial full-time collegiate enrollment may be used for initial eligibility.  Enter 9999 during ACT or SAT registration to ensure the testing agency reports your score directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center. Test scores on transcripts will not be used.

NCAA Division I Initial - Eligibility Requirements Core Grade-Point Average:  Only core courses that appear on the high school's List of NCAA Courses on the NCAA Eligibility Center's website (www.eligibilitycenter.org) will be used to calculate your core-course GPA. Use this list as a guide.  Initial full-time collegiate enrollment before August 1, 2016: o Students must present a corresponding test score (ACT sum score or SAT combined score) and core-course GPA (minimum 2.000) on Sliding Scale A (see Page No. 2). o Core-course GPA is calculated using the best 16 core courses that meet subject-area requirements.  Initial full-time collegiate enrollment on or after August 1, 2016: o Students must present a corresponding test score (ACT sum score or SAT combined score) and core-course GPA (minimum 2.300) on Sliding Scale B (see Page No. 2). o Core-course GPA is calculated using the best 16 core courses that meet both progression (10 before seventh semester; seven in English, math or science; "locked in") and subject-area requirements.

22. FAQ Does English Lab and Algebra Enrichment count for credit? I want to go to college, should I take English 9 or Honors English 9? -or the AHD Should I “double up” in Math? Do I have to take Social Studies my freshman and sophomore year? Should I take a World Language? What is a Fine Arts credit? Do I have to take a Study Hall?
