  2. Reading Genres • Historical fiction • Biography • Realistic Fiction • Expository Nonfiction • Theatrical Scripts Reading Block • Guided Reading • Focus: applying a variety of reading comprehension strategies • Flexible Small Groups & Large Groups • Nightly Reading: 20 – 30 minutes

  3. Accelerated Reader • Students take an initial test to see their approximate reading comprehension grade level equivalency. • Students are required to fulfill a point requirement each quarter. Your child will receive their point goal after their reading level has been assessed and we have our online access!

  4. Language Arts Harcourt Series • D.L.A. one week, Spelling the next • Genres of writing • Writing Process • Pre-writing, Drafting, Revising/Conferring, Editing, Publishing, Reflecting • 6+1 Traits of Writing Forms of Writing Narrative Stories, poetry, response to literature, essays and letters, persuasive text, autobiographies, research reports

Math Estimation & Computation • Whole numbers • Decimals • Fractions • Mixed Numbers Additional Concepts • Geometry • Conversions of Metric & Customary Measurement • Algebra & Problem-solving Data Analysis • Mean, median, mode, range • Analyzing statistics • Analyzing Graphs Saxon Math Every Day!

  7. Science Camp • We are looking forward to attending a science camp in Prescott this year. It is an AMAZING opportunity, and we will need all of the tax credit donations we can get! Please fill out the form online or on paper and designate it to the 6th grade field trip fund!

  8. Early Civilizations: Ancient Greece and Rome Ancient Egypt China Middle Ages & The Renaissance Influence of Past Civilizations on Present-Day Societies Social Studies…Focus on World History We do several projects and presentations. You will have plenty of notice! 

  9. Expectations/Homework Completion • Homework turned in by 8:30 a.m. • VISA-Very Important Special Activity • 24 Hour Extension Pass: 2 per quarter

  11. A Parent’s Role with 6th Grade Homework • Check your child’s agenda or the class website to see what the assignments are. • Ask your child to show you their homework. • Ask questions! Please communicate any issues that you see (struggles or needing more challenging material). Communicate early to avoid difficulties.

  12. Homework/Grades • Your child’s grades will be available online. Please check them! Graded work stays in binders until the end of the quarter. • I assign homework Monday-Thursday. I post the homework on our class website on a daily basis. You can always check to see what the assignments are. 6th graders love us for this…
