  2. Divinity Of Jesus

  3. Mt. 16:13-17 [13] When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? [14] And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

  4. [15] He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: forflesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

  5. “The Christian religion is founded upon the divinity of Jesus; the fact that he was not an ordinary man like you and me, but rather a heavenly person, God, even as the Father and Holy Spirit are God.”

  6. Satan and his followers have worked unceasingly through the ages to prove Jesus was an ordinary man Satan has had many helpers! College professors, men of science, religious schools, etc.

  7. We believe even as Peter stated, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” LET US EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE OF HIS DIVINITY – OF THE FACT THAT JESUS IS DIVINE

  8. 1. His birth 700 years before He was born the prophet foretold: [14] Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Is. 7:14)

  9. Lk. 1:34-35 [34] Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? [35] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

  10. Mt. 1:23 [23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

  11. 2. His sinless life proved Jesus to be supernatural 1 Pet. 2:21-22 [21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:[22] Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

  12. Jn. 8:46 [46] Which of you convinceth me of sin?

  13. Mt. 27:4 [4] Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

  14. Jn. 18:38 [38] Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

  15. “Where is there a man of any era, race or culture who did no sin?”

  16. 3. The words He used and how He used them point to his divinity Jn. 7:46 [46] The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

  17. Mt. 7:29 [29] For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

  18. 4. Jesus claimed to be divine Only a divine person could do the works that Jesus did Jn. 3:2 (Nicodemus said) [2] for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

  19. He changed water to wine - fed 5000 with a handful of food - stilled the storm – walked on water – healed the sick – gave sight to the blind – raised the dead Would God have given such power to an imposter?

  20. 5. Many witnesses testified that Jesus was the Son of God John the Baptist Jn. 1:29 [29] The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

  21. The Father - Mt. 17:5 [5] While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him

  22. The centurion at the crossMt. 27:54 [54] Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

  23. The elements bore witness to His Majesty - Mt. 27:45, 51-53 [45] Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour [51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

  24. [52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,[53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many

  25. 6. The overwhelming proof was established by His resurrection Rom. 1:4 [4] And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead

  26. Acts 17:31 [31] Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

  27. Jesus is divine. He left heaven, lived, taught, suffered and died that our sins might be forgiven. God raised Him from death and highly exalted him that ever knee should bow and that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord Phil. 2 :9-11.

  28. “Far from being just a famous person from ancient history, Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Belief in this fact is not based upon human opinion and wishful thinking, but rests solidly upon the bedrock of the inspired Word of God.”
