  1. Seven Segment Displays

  2. Seven Segment Displays Covered in this presentation • Letters and numbers made on 7 segment displays • Common anode 7 segment displays • Common cathode 7 segment displays

  3. Anode and Cathode displays • Nothing more than LED’s shaped in an 8. • Each LED is given a label of a-g. • Anode more common in class, but cathode also used. • Anode is powered with each LED attached to “0” to light up. • Cathode is grounded with each LED attached to “1” to light up.

  4. SSD Display Possibilities Decimal Digits 0-9 Select Alpha Characters Simple Messages

  5. Common Anode SSD • Example • What value would be displayed in the common anode seven-segment display shown?

  6. How to make an Anode SSD • Solution • Common Anode: • 0 volts = Segment On • a, b, c, d, & g • 5 volts = Segment Off • e & f

  7. Common Cathode SSD • Example • What value would be displayed in the common cathode seven-segment display shown?

  8. How to make a Cathode SSD • Solution • Common Cathode: • 5 volts = Segment On • a, b, c • 0 volts = Segment Off • d, e, f & g
