  9. Key issues • Integrated approach • Scales • Stakeholders • Knowledge • One problem One solution • New paradigms: • Urban management and integrated approaches: soundscapes • Preventive measures and policies in front of: heat island effect, heat waves, epidemic episodes, alien species,…

  10. Some questions for the discussion… • Do you think the topics addressed are the most important ones? • Are you aware of existing research studies / projects dealing with the items proposed? • Have those items been horizontally treated in other working areas? • Considering these environmental vectors or others? • Which elements can you identify as repetition of work already done? • Do you think key elements such as social equity/vulnerable population should be included in the research? How can we address them in the context of the project? • What models/tools/decision-making applications and criteria do you use/aware of to plan the development of an urban area? Are the items mentioned before included in the decision tree? • Which would be the best practices you are aware of by integrating environmental vectors determining quality of life with climate change and/or sustainable land use? • Are the links proposed to assess health with the other challenges relevant from your point of view?

  11. And some more… • Do you think integrated policies in urban areas have been really applied? When do you consider they are really effective for urban management? • What do you think is needed to develop and really implement integrated policies? • Do you know any example of a mobility policy including health aspects? Do you think it is important? How would you suggest doing it? • How to deal with the different definitions and delineations of urban areas proposed in different Directives? • What do you think would be the best way to share the information? How to avoid information loss? How to manage huge amounts of information and with different levels of detail?

  12. Thank you very much for your attention Any question? Urban NEXUS Kick-off meeting, Sofia, 17 November 2011
