What is O*NET? • O*Net is the Occupational Information Network • Essentially replaces the old Dictionary of Occupational Titles • Funded in part by the US Dept. of Labor Employment and Training Administration (ETA) • The O*NET Database contains information on 900 occupations • Information is derived through interviews with companies and workers about job requirements • Information is completely refreshed every 7-8 years • Some fast changing occupations are updated more regularly

  4. O*NET provides a wide variety of occupational information • Job tasks • Tools and technologies used • Knowledge • Skills • Abilities • Work activities • Education required • Related occupations • Employment and wages • Future outlook • Green characteristics

What are some of the uses of O*NET? • Students seeking to choose a career, and job seekers looking for their next jobs • Guidance and career counselors working to help students and job seekers • Educational and training providers looking for information to support their curricula development efforts • Researchers interested in workforce issues • And many others…
