What is Energy Day? • A free, family-friendly festival at Hermann Square in front of City Hall in downtown • Houston, Texas on Saturday October 19, 2013 • Kid-friendly demonstrations & booths focused on energy-related scientific • breakthroughs, the various sources of energy, and efficiency & conservation • Opportunities to interact with energy experts and learn about careers in energy • Celebrates and highlights the importance of energy in our daily lives • Showcases Houston’s energy legacy and its energy future, as well as the city’s • contributions to innovation in energy, conservation and efficiency • The year-round Energy Day Academic Program (EDAP) engages students in energy • education and amplifies existing competitions and events aimed to motivate, • challenge and inspire young minds to seek careers in science and technology. www.energydayfestival.org

Mission & Festival Details • Energy Day’s mission is to educate students and their families about all • forms of energy by demonstrating energy innovation, technology, efficiency • & conservation and the overall role of all sources of energy in meeting our • current and future energy needs. • Interactive energy exhibits demonstrating the various forms of energy • production and state-of-the-art technology • Games, arts & crafts and entertainment for the family • Music, food & vendors • Students, educators and industry leaders will be honored with awards • Speakers & presentations www.energydayfestival.org

  7. 2013 Energy Day Academic Program • As part of Energy Day’s year-long initiative to engage students in energy education, Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), University of Houston and our Energy Day partners are excited to host the 3rd Annual Energy Day Academic Program.   • The Energy Day Academic Program helps to amplify existing academic competitions and events through a series of seven unique, citywide, energy-related competitions aimed to motivate, challenge and inspire young minds to seek careers in science and technology.  Winners from each competition receive an award and recognition at Energy Day.  • The 2013 Energy Day Academic Program includes the following competitions • The Science and Engineering Fair of Houston from February 28 – March 2, 2013 • The CSTEM Challenge on April 13, 2013 • The HGS/HMNS/CEA Art, Essay & Media Contests from April-October 2013 • Houston: Energy City of the Future 2050 Competition in May 2013 • The Children’s Museum of Houston Young Inventors’ Showcase in May 2013 • The International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, and Environment Project from May 8-13, 2013 www.energydayfestival.org
