Course Administration • Must have authorization to schedule course • Authorized course administrators include: • Certified Instructors, State CPS Coordinators, and Safe Kids Coalition Coordinators • If you would like to set-up a course, you must submit a Course Administrator Application (Found on the Web site Resources->Forms)

  5. Public Course Steps A public course is open to all individuals • Student must reserve spot & submit payment for course • When payment is accepted, the reservation automatically becomes a registration • Student will receive notification via email

  6. Controlled Course Steps A controlled course is open only to individuals approved by the lead instructor. 1. Student must reserve spot in course 2. Lead Instructor must approve/deny reservation

  7. Controlled Course Steps • If approved, student has 10 days to submit payment • When payment is accepted, reservation becomes registration • Student will receive notification via email

  8. Payment by Purchase Order • Student must reserve spot in course • Student must print out registration form, which is filled-in except for the payment information • In controlled course, student needs approval from lead instructor before form will print • Registration form and purchase order must be received by the NY Office within 10 days

  9. Substitution Policy • Registration may be transferred from student to student • Substitute must have SK log-in & password • Registered student must have the substitute’s SK ID to make the change • Once a substitute is registered, a refund will not be issued for any reason

  10. Taking a Different Course • Student may reschedule online to any future public course with no penalty • No limit to number of times a student can reschedule

  11. Refund Policy • Refund is processed by cancellation date; • 10 or more calendar days before the course starting date = refund minus a $10 cancellation fee • 9 to 1 calendar days before the course starting date = refund minus a $30 late cancellation fee • Cancellations on the first day of class = no refund

  12. Retake Course (Retest) • Technician candidates who fail the written exam but pass the hands-on skills testing and attend the car seat check are eligible for this course at no charge • Retests must be returned for scoring no later than 90 days after student receives notification of their original test score

Recertification Process • Log-In • Choose “Seat Check Activity” • Choose “Add/Review” (under Action) for the seat completed • Enter date of activity • Enter instructor number (look-up option is available) • Email will be sent to instructor. If instructor does not approve within 14 days, activity will automatically be approved.

  14. Recertification Process • Upon instructor approval, technician will receive email notification • Upon completion/approval of all seat check activity, technician may register for recertification exam • When payment is received/verified, a test password will be issued via email & snail mail

  16. Certification Renewal Course(CRC) • One-day course • For formerly certified technicians whose certification has expired • Must have maintained CPS knowledge and hands-on skills

  17. Certification Renewal Course(CRC) • Alternative to retaking the certification course • Not intended to be a shortened version of the certification course

  18. Certification Renewal Course(CRC) • After successful completion of the course, student will be sent online testing info • To complete the renewal process, student must pass the online exam

  19. Certification Renewal Course(CRC) • If student does not pass the hands-on portion or the on-line exam, student MUST retake the original certification course to become certified

  20. Certification Renewal Course(CRC) • Any previously certified technician may take the CRC onetime • $ 70 fee which includes: • Student CRC Manual • Online (recertification) exam • 2 year certification

Technician Proxy Option • Began April 11, 2005 • Voluntary option for instructors • Qualified technician to act in instructor’s place • Offered because check-offs by an instructor (preferred) are not always a feasible option • Instructor makes final approval online • Most Michigan instructors will not designate a proxy

  28. Exam Process • Once student registers for the exam, they have 30 days to complete it • 30-day period starts when exam password is issued, NOT when exam was started

  29. Exam Process • Student may log-in & out as many times as they need to while taking the exam • Student may “mark” questions to review before test submission

  30. Exam Process • If test is not completed within 30 days, it will be scored based on completed answers • If failing score is received, student may retake the test for a $20.00 fee. This may be done ONE TIME only.
