The southern Cross (Crux Australis ) was chosen because it can always be seen in the Australian sky at night.   8. Level 89 of Eureka Tower contains a public function space and bar, 285.5 meters above the ground. The Eureka Skydeck on level 88 will be 282 meters above ground level, making it the highest public observatory in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere Eureka Tower is named after the Eureka Stockade, a rebellion during the Victorian gold rush in 1854. This has been incorporated into the design, with the building's gold crown representing the gold rush and a red stripe representing the blood spilt during the revolt.

  9. The two lifts servicing the observation decks will be the fastest in Australia, travelling at nine meters per second and taking just over 30 seconds from the ground floor lobby

  10. The blue glass cladding that covers most of the building represents the blue background of the stockade's flag and the white lines also represent the eureka stockade flag

  11. The prospectus of the building suggests the white horizontal stripes represent the marking units on a surveyor's measuring staff
