  1. President’s Report Scottish Society of Tidewater February 6th, 2008

  2. The Water Horse • Follow-up to the program presented by SST Members at Coventry Elementary School last fall • Organized by Lynnette Fitch Brash - we had a great turnout! • Met a nice lady from Midlothian - Mhairi - who was taking (one by one) all of her grandchildren to see the film - new member!

  3. The Royal Scots Dragoons • Played at CNU along with the Band of the Coldstream Guards • Many SST members in attendance, along with members of the NNPPD&D • An outstanding show, even with some English leanings!

  4. Memorial Fundraiser forDet. Jarrod Shivers • Chesapeake Police Officer, killed in the line of duty • Outgoing individual, involved in many activities throughout Hampton Roads, with a massive circle of friends. • Police Emerald Society, together with several other organizations and businesses, organized a fundraiser at Paradocks in Chesapeake • The community raised $25,000 for the family!!!

  5. Tidewater St. A’s Burns Nicht • A very enjoyable evening, with many SST members in attendance, despite the snow! • The focus was on Robert Burns, with poems, toasts, dancing, music, and singing in honor of the bard. • Many thanks to the St. A’s Board, including Stacy Apelt, Rob Lockwood, and Sandy MacGregor, for their hard work in organizing this event

  6. Promoting Scottish Culture In Your Community • Lynnette Fitch Brash prepared a Robert Burns display at Tallwood High School • She is also organizing two events for this semester - “Celtic Café” - an Irish one in March, and a Scottish one in April

  7. Upcoming Events • The next couple of months are VERY busy for the local Celtic community … • Please check the website regularly for updates – thanks, Scott! • Here is a partial list of upcoming events … again, check the website for specifics on location, pricing, etc.

  8. Upcoming Events • Feb. 15th - 17th – Philly Midwinter Celtic Music Festival (see Lynnette/Edward for more details) • Feb. 17th - Ceili in Newport News - Midtown Community Center - 2-5pm - FREE!

  9. 12th Annual Scottish Symposium • Williamsburg, VA - Feb. 22-23, 2008 • Sponsored by the Caledonian Foundation, USA • This year’s event will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tartan Day in the U.S. • Dinner and reception on Friday evening, symposium all day Saturday, Dinner and reception on Saturday evening • $175 for all, $50 for either dinner/reception • Contact Byron Adams at (757) 874-3222

Upcoming Events • Mar. 8th – TIAS Finnegan’s Wake @ Church of the Ascension - No tickets at the door! • Mar. 12th - Chieftains @ Sandler Center • Mar. 15th – Ocean View St. Patrick’s Day Parade • Mar. 29th - Richmond St. Patrick’s Day Parade/Fest. • Mar. 29th - Battlefield Band @ Ferguson Center at CNU

  13. Nessie! • We need to get Nessie in top shape for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, as well as the Azalea Festival Parade of Nations • We need volunteers to come out and help with this! Please see me after the meeting … this means you!

  14. Tartan Day Ceilidh 2008 • To be held at Church of the Ascension Hall • Saturday, April 12th, 2008 • All Scottish menu - catered by Graham Smith et al. from the Green Oak • Poisoned Dwarf providing music for ceilidh dancing • Approx. $25-$28 per person - menu is still being finalized. • We need volunteers to help with decorating, etc.!!!!

  15. Virginia International Tattoo • April 18-20, 2008 • The SST will again be attending this year's performance of the show on Saturday, April 19th as a group • The cost is $29.75 per ticket for members. Ticket purchases will have to be made by March 16. • Contact George Phillips for more information, and to buy tickets!

  16. Azalea Festival Parade of Nations • Saturday, April 19th, 2008 • Tailgate party from 8:00am-10:00am in the Harbor Park parking lot, where the parade floats muster • Parade step-off is at 10:00am • This is a fun event - please consider attending - as always, volunteers are welcomed!

  17. Baird Scholarship • To date, we have not yet received any applications! • Please consider applying … consult the website for further details on eligibility and the format of the application

  18. Next SST Meeting Tuesday, March 4th, 2007 Annual General Meeting - Elections Dues must be paid in order to vote! Carol Amarosi will now have further information on the candidates …
