    3. Food In an ordinary family, the main meal consisted of onions, salted fish and bread that was made from ground wheat. Milk was provided by cows and goats, and meat was not as common as fish. Cooked food was prepared out side or in a separate kitchen. Fish or meat was cooked on a spit over a fire. Before they ate, the ancient Egyptians washed their hands. Both the rich and the poor ate their food using their fingers.

    4. Food Because Egypt was very dry, they relied mostly on the Nile river to water the crops, the Egyptians could only grow certain kinds of food. Mainly they grew wheat and barley. The Egyptians made wheat into bread and into soup and porridge. They also added hops to make the barley into beer.

    5. Clothing and Jewelry Egyptians wore linen cloths. The men and women wore wigs. They were very popular. The shoes they wore were called spindles. They were made out of twine strap. Men wore short kilts leaving their chest bare. Horus the sky god wore a bracelet to protect him. One makeup was made out of iron oxide. The makeup they put on the eyes were called kohl.

    6. Clothing and Jewelry In Egypt the women wore headdresses called lotus headdresses. The women wore long tight fitting dresses. On cool evenings they might put on long sleeved gowns. They even wore earrings that looked like mushrooms of all kinds of colors.

    7. Transportation The Egyptians did a lot of walking by foot. They wore sandals and carried them to the places they were going. The Eygptians rode camels and also rode ferries, which are big boats, on the Nile River.

    8. Transportation The Egyptians made their first rafts in 2900 B.C. The Egyptians needed boats to carry big strong blocks to build pyramids. The main route of transportation was by shipping. They rode on boats, ships and rafts. The boats would also carry royal gods to their tomb stones when they died.

    9. Religion and Beliefs The people of Egypt believed in many gods. The people worshipped these gods with animal sacrifices and incense and many processions where people carried the image of the god from one place to another.

    10. Homes and Furniture The houses were built out of mud bricks. Some of the houses were tall and thin. The houses were two or three stories tall. They painted the walls white inside the house. The windows were high with wooden shutters. The houses were built to stay cool.

    11. Homes and Furniture The Egyptians didn’t have much furniture. The Egyptians had less space in there houses. The Egyptians had very small furniture in the houses. On the roof of the Egyptians houses there were three or two windows that open up to bring air in. Inside the houses the rooms were dark.

    12. Homes and Furniture The rich Egyptians had 10 rooms in their homes and the poor Egyptian’s homes had only 1 room. The rich Egyptians walls were often blue or yellow. The ceilings were colored white. The poor Egyptians had floors made of beaten earth. The rich Egyptians had their floors tiled. The rich Egyptians had a room with an alter that was used for the family’s worship of the friendlier gods.

    13. Education The Egyptian children learn proverbs and stories by heart. Only boys from rich families attended school. They usually graduated when they were fourteen. Most woman taught their children. They studied reading, writing and math.

    14. Education Many of the boys became scribes. Scribes are important people they do the writing they needed, a lot of practice. So they also had to be good at math. They also learn arithmetic. Good hand writing was considered essential and copy practice was set regularly for this purpose

    15. Recreation and Games The Ancient Egyptians were a fun-loving people. Children had all kinds of toys such as; dolls, balls made of leather and jumping jacks. In ancient Egypt young boys liked to swim, wrestle and play. The young girls liked to dance and juggle. The adults liked board games especially with dice.

    16. Recreation and Games The rich people liked hunting. The only person who was allowed to use a boomerang was the Nobles. Many sat down on boats in marshes, waiting for ducks. They hunted lions, gazelles and spotted hyenas.

    17. Recreation and Games They used chariots for racing. The chariots, were painted with colors and the horses were matched. The rich men in Ancient Egypt, liked to have a party. At the party, the most important people sat on chairs, while everyone sat on the floor

    18. The Nile The river Nile has flooded for four months each year. The river Nile is close to black land and Redland.

    19. Location Egypt is close to Libya, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Sudan and Saubl Arubla in North Africa. Egypt is in the desert of the god called Set.
