  4. New Student Orientation Friday, August 22 • Welcome event, West TC Lawn • 3:30 pm All campus Ice Cream Social • 4:00 pm New Student Orientation • Faculty will be asked to introduce themselves

  5. Tablet Distribution PlanInformation Technology Services (ITS), • All tablet distribution will occur in Lowry Hall. Direct student to the Help Desk. • New freshman/transfers on Friday, August 22 • Saturday, August 23 from 9:00am – 2:00pm • Help Center in Lowry Hall for students who might have questions or issues. • For all technology needs, contact ITS at help@dsu.eduor 256-5675; Lowry Hall.

  7. Update Vita & Syllabi Reminder: • Update vita and turn into your college secretary • New Faculty reminder to get picture taken • Submit an electronic copy of your syllabi to your college secretary

  8. WebNow Software Electronic documents available to faculty advisors • Documents: Placement reports, transcripts, and check sheets • Login: Same login and password as WebAdvisor or D2L • Questions: work with college secretary • We will plan faculty development workshops as well

  14. Course Syllabi Dates Please include: • Drop/Add Deadline – Sept. 4 (Census Date) • Last day to “W” – Nov. 7 (full semester class) • Final exams – Dec. 11-17 (Thurs – Wed) • Final grades due – Dec. 22 (Monday) Syllabus and D2L templates to ensure accessibility by students with disabilities

Course Enrollments Rosters v. actual class attendance: • Check rosters • Report no shows – EA survey Aug. 28th to Sept. 2nd • D2L roster updated nightly Other Requirements: • Don’t delete student records from D2L. (It will disappear automatically when withdraw and can be reinstated to check LDAA)

  18. Professional Development Plan • Reminder that PDP plans due on first day of class for faculty unit members • Visit with your Dean if you have questions

Office Hours • 8 hours a week spread over a minimum of 3 days. • Faculty include in syllabi a statement that you are available by appointment and established reasonable and responsible email response times of a maximum of 48 hours M-F excluding holidays, semester breaks and sick or personal leave. • Faculty who teach online classes or who set assignment deadlines over the weekend set email response times that take into account students’ need for information and reassurance as assignment deadlines draw near.

  20. Faculty Professional Development Funds • Professional travel fund • Guidelines – max 10% over request • Funding limit -- $1,200 annually (funding levels are 80/20 or 70/30) • Faculty training fund • Guidelines – max 10% over request • Funding limit -- $1,200 annually

  21. NAIA and 0xx Courses • NAIA new legislation beginning this fall: • New legislation allows us to count a zero level course as part of the semester hours.  • However, will not be able to count it toward the 24 hour rule.  • So, that student will still be required to take additional courses in the following semester or summer to get to the 24 credits needed for eligibility.

  22. Class Visitor Program • Program allows community people to sit in on classes and participate • Pay $100 per course with maximum of two courses • No grade is issued, no assignments, tests, quizzes • Sign up and pay in the Registrar’s Office

  23. Portal • Portal Site • https://loginshib.sdbor.edu/idp/Authn/UserPassword • Use your BORIS username and password to log in. This is the same username as Desire2Learn and WebAdvisor.

  24.
