  2. Why “Questions” ? You can never learn enough about all commonly used medicines by the whole population... But you can easily teach them to ask five questions before using a new drug.

  3. The 5 Key Questions • What does this medicine do ? • How and when do I use it ? • For how long do I have to use it ? • May I drive when I take this medicine ? • What side effects or risks should I know about this medicine, and what do I do when they occur ?

  4. Pharmacists will contribute to the development of these 5 questions : • Providing a model of counseling based on the questions • Encouraging patients to ask these questions • Providing advice, help and support to patients who want to know more about there medication. • Urging all commercial companies to structure their communication to the patient based on these 5 questions • Displaying posters and providing relevant literature

  5. How “QaM” ? • Implementation • with an image campaign for pharmacies • with a public education program through pharmacy • with a launch of new medicines in partnership with the industry • Material : • posters, leaflets, stickers, post-its, postcards,telephone numbers ... • Keep it running ...

Last projects • Germany : campaign in ‘96-’97 • Spain : campaign in the pharmacy • Portugal : pilot campaign in Lisboa (29 pharmacies) • Slovenia : education of pharmacists and leaflets for patients (all pharmacists) • Belgium : pilot campaign around Bruges (60 pharmacies) in 1999 national campaign in Belgium ( 65 %of pharmacies ) • Twinning projects : • Germany - Croatia • Finland - Estonia • Denmark - Latvia
