  3. Activator Week 19 Day 1 • Besides Christmas, what is your favorite holiday to celebrate? • What is your favorite family tradition? Select one of the questions above to respond to with a 5-7 sentence paragraph. You MUST have a topic sentence, concrete details, and a closing sentence.

  5. Answer these questions in a paragraph. • If you could have lunch today with a famous person, who would you pick and why? • What are five questions you would ask that person? • What are three things you would want that person to know about you?

  6. Depth of Development Notes TS = Topic sentence that lets audience know what the paragraph is about. NO DETAILS; DON’T USE THE WORD “BECAUSE.”

  7. DETAILS!!!! CD = Concrete (specific) detail to develop your topic sentence. “Happy,” “good,” and “fun” are NOT concrete details.

  8. EXPLAINING YOUR DETAILS • CM = Commentary that EXPLAINS, DEVELOPS, OR DESCRIBES the concrete detail you just introduced. • Now you can use the word “because.” • Now you can use imagery. • Now you can answer the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How questions.

  9. CLOSING • CS = Closing sentence that provides closure for that particular paragraph and/or transitions to the next paragraph’s main point. • “It’s clear that…”

Your well-being is tied to the well-being of the environment. • Make a list of as many environmental issues you can think of. • Which do you think is the most important issue on that list and why? • Who do you think needs to address this issue? • What will happen if this issue is not addressed? Write a paragraph that answers these questions. USE #2 TO CREATE YOUR TS. Use at least 2 CD’S each followed by at least one CM.
