Basic GTA Information • Hire Paperwork: • Returning GTAs: You are not required to complete any paperwork • New GTAs: If you have not met with me to process your paperwork, please email me at hogen@ksu.edu to set-up an appointment. • Pay Information: • Paychecks are processed biweekly • Direct Deposit is required • Biweekly pay schedule: http://www.k-state.edu/hr/paydates.html • Course Assignments/Desk Assignments/Keys • Request RFID access • One Semester Offers – renewable with successful performance both as a GTA and as a student

General Department Information • Copies • If needed for course, see main office M-F, 8-5 • Campus Mail and Off-Campus Mail drop off trays are located in the main office in 2184 • You will have a box in 1119 • Telephone Use – strictly controlled. • To dial on-campus: Dial the last 5 digits of the number • To dial local, off-campus: Dial “9” and then the phone number • To dial long distance: Please see Theresa for authorization prior to placing the call

  5. System Administration Support • All necessary software required for courses is available on the various systems in the department. Email support@cs.ksu.edu if you need something specific made available. • KSU and CS email accounts are required • If you need printing capabilities, email support@cs.ksu.edu and provide your desk location.

  6. Your Responsibilities • As a student holding a GTA position: • You are required to take 6 credit hours. • Department Head and Advisor approval is required for additional credit hours • Department Head approval is required for less than 6 credit hours • Meet with your Advisor prior to enrolling in courses • As a GTA for the department: • Office Hours: 2 hours each week is required, use 1119 • Posting Grades • Only post via K-State Online • Student Issues: If student issues arise, set-up a meeting with the faculty member responsible for the course to discuss • Complete TEVAL release form • Review GTA Guidelines at (CS Homepage -> Employment -> GTA Applications and Guidelines) • https://www.cs.ksu.edu/sites/default/files/Fall 2019 GTA Guidelines.pdf

K-State Honor & Integrity System • University Honor and Integrity site: http://www.k-state.edu/honor/ • Grading for a course: • If you identify a situation in which a student is cheating, notify your faculty member immediately • If you recognize a possible personal conflict of interest (for example: having a roommate in the class for which you are grading), notify your faculty member • If you are being pressured by anyone about grading etc, notify your faculty member immediately

  8. Preparing for your GTA position • SPEAK test: If your first language is not English, take the SPEAK test as soon as possible if you have not taken the TOEFL IBT Speak portion and received a 22 or higher • SSN: If you do not have a Social Security Number (SSN), apply for one with the International Student Services • No keys for the department will be issued. You will have RFID swipe access to locations you need to access. • Insurance (optional): Available to GTAs at a discounted rate. Spring Open Enrollment ends 8/31/19. Enrollment forms available at: https://requestcoverage.uhcsr.com/k-state/ • Tuition Waiver: Check your kSIS account to make sure your tuition waiver is applied • Complete deferment request and submit • Email csoffice@ksu.edu your office hours for the semester. 2 hours per week are required.

  9. Planning for the Summer Break • You are required to be here for the full semester of your employment. • You may not leave early or return late • If you have a specific situation that you feel would allow an exception to this policy, you must receive approval from both the faculty member that is responsible for the courses you are supporting and from the Department Head

  10. Semester End/Graduation • Complete the Graduate Student checklist with the department • Return software and textbooks that you have borrowed • Return examination copies of textbooks that you may have received from publishers • Provide a forwarding address for your W-2 tax form
