  2. Rock Cycle – process by which rock is changed from one class to another. • (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic)

  3. Precambrian Shield – rock formation formed between 544 and 4500 million years ago; underlies Alberta, though it is only exposed in the northeast corner of the province. It is made up of igneous and metamorphic rock.

  4. Interior Plain – a wedge-shaped area of land extending from the Canadian shield to the Rocky Mountains; most of Alberta and part of Saskatchewan and Manitoba lie in this area. • This is made up of various layers of sedimentary rock that are between 544 million and 1.5 million years old.
