Learning Target • We will discuss the progression of American and Canadian relations after World War II Success Criteria I will be able to correctly analyze a political cartoon (using the necessary steps). I will be able to effectively communicate the progression of American and Canadian relations by analyzing specific historical events.

  3. Agenda • Homework – Take Up • Political Cartoon Analysis • Canadian and American Relations – Historical Events Jigsaw • Summit Series of 1972 • Tommy Douglas

  4. Political Cartoon Analysis What are the Steps? • Describe what you see • Identify the topic • Identify the two possible positions • What is the cartoonist side of the situation (in support or not in support)? • What is the cartoonist message? • What techniques does the cartoonist utilize?

  6. America and Canada • Think-Pair-Share Activity: What is the importance of having America and Canada as allies? What are the gains for Canada?

  7. American-Canadian Relations • Make a chart like the following in your notebooks. • Make sure you leave enough room.

American-Canadian Relations – Jigsaw! • Get into groups of four (4) • Give each person a number (1, 2, 3, 4) • Each person will be responsible for researching one event in the chart. • You will be moving to a different group to work on the event and will report back to your group where you will share your findings. • Make sure your part is complete and accurate, as you are responsible for the transmission of the correct information. • This will be on the exam!!!!
