Which one is best for your organization?

There are several licensing options available from Microsoft.

OEM Software

  • This software is pre-installed on a new PC.

  • This license is applicable to the PC only. OEM software licenses can only be transferred with the sale or transfer of the PC that the software originally came preinstalled on. Note: include OS licensing language here.

Full packaged product fpp or retail product
Full Packaged Product (FPP) or Retail Product

  • FPP is software that is acquired from a retail store.

  • FPP is recommended for home and for businesses with less than five PCs.

  • The license for FPP is transferable with the software only if all original components (media, COA, manuals, etc.) are transferred along with the license. If the software is moved from one PC to another, the license moves with it. In some instances, the license agreement only allows for a one-time transfer.

Open license

  • Open License is recommended for organizations with five or more PCs.
