  1. AreaanditsBoundary Class: V By Deepali Sircar K.V. MEG & CENTRE BANGALORE

  2. The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter 8 cm 6 cm 6 cm 8 cm The perimeter of the shape is 8 + 6 + 8 + 6 = 28cm.

  3. What is the perimeter of each of these shapes? 18cm 18cm 22cm 18cm 26cm

  4. 5cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 7cm 7cm 3cm 3cm 3cm 3cm Find the perimeter Perimeter = 18cm Perimeter = 22cm

  5. The area of a shape is the amount of space inside it The area of this shape is 18cm2 To find out how much shape is inside, we can count the squares

  6. Find the area of each of these shapes 12cm2 22cm2 26cm2

  7. This is an irregular shape. This means that the sides aren’t straight. To find the area of an irregular shape you first count the full squares inside it

  8. The area of the shape is 60cm2 You then count all the other squares which have more than half the area covered

  9. 24cm2 25cm2 What is the area of each of these shapes? 35cm2 22cm2

  10. The rectangle is made of 6 rows of 8 squares To work out the number of squares we multiply 6 by 8 Counting each square can take a long time. Is there a quicker way? The area of the shape is 48cm2

  11. 18cm2 20cm2 What is the area of each of these shapes? 30cm2 14cm2 22cm2

  12. We can work out the area of a rectangle without the grid length width Area = length x width

  13. Now find the area of the rectangles 7cm 5cm 35cm2 4cm 5cm 20cm2 9cm 36cm2 12.5cm 4cm 25cm2 2cm

  14. w o r k s h e e t o n e Find the perimeter & area

  15. w o r k s h e e t t h r e e Find the area

  16. Now try this… 1 One side of a square garden is 5 m. What will be the length of the fencing required? Fencing= the boundary = perimeter = sum of all sides = 5+5+5+5 (or 4x5 because it’s a square) = 20 m 2. A 20 m-long thin wire is formed into a rectangle. If the width of this rectangle is 4 cm, what is its length? Length = 6cm 3. Find the area of a rectangle with length of 6 cm and width of 4 cm Area = length x width = 6x4 sq cm = 24 sq cm

  17. How to calculate THE PERIMETER of a TRIANGLE This is easy !! Lets see how… To find the perimeter you just need to add up the length of all the 3 sides.. This method works with any other shape that doesn’t have parallel sides like a rectangle. The perimeter is= 5cm+11cm+13cm= 29 cm 13 cm 5 cm 11 cm

  18. Name:____________________ Worksheet What is the area of the moon? _____________________cm2 What is the area of the rectangle? _____________________cm2 What is the perimeter of the rectangle? _____________________cm

  19. What is the area of the house? _____________________cm2
