    3. Course Overview

    The “Manufacturing Cluster” program is a part day introductory course which will allow you to learn actual trade skills and investigate career opportunities in manufacturing occupations.

    4. 3 main areas of study

    Welding Technologies Sheet Metal Fabrication Mechatronics Engineering

    5. Welding Technologies

    Using industrial welding equipment, students will learn various techniques for joining metal parts together. Methods covered are MIG, TIG, Oxyacetylene, and Arc welding.

    6. Gas Metal Arc Welding (also known as MIG welding)

    7. Oxyfuel Welding & Cutting

    8. Electric Arc Welding (also known as stick welding)

    9. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (also known as TIG welding)

    10. Plasma Arc Cutting

    Skills learned in this area will include the use of machines and hand tools for laying out, cutting, forming, and joining sheet metal.

    20. Mechatronics

    Mechatronics is a combination of computer, electrical and mechanical engineering. Mechatronic devices incorporate electrical, mechanical, and computer software components.

    Students will be introduced to industrial and commercial machines. Curriculum and instruction includes the areas of electricity, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, and computer controlled machines.

    36. Student Responsibilities

    Take responsibility for your education and career goals. Come prepared and ready to put in a fair day’s work. Cooperate with the instructor and other classmates.

    37. Student Responsibilities

    Display safe work habits. Show respect toward all people, property, and equipment. Comply with all LCCTC Student Handbook policies.

    38. Attendance

    Regular attendance is essential for success in this program. If a student is absent it is their responsibility to check with the instructor for any missed assignments. Make up work must be completed within three days of returning. Tests and assignments missed due to unexcused absences may not be made up.

    39. Important

    If you are absent you will need to bring in two excuse cards. Submit one to the CTC and the other to your high school.

    40. Dress Code

    Students are required to wear a uniform on a daily basis. Navy Blue “Dickie” brand work pants. Royal Blue CTC shirt. No hooded sweatshirts are allowed. High Top leather work boots. Reinforced (steel) toe boots are preferred but not required. No sneakers or casual boots are allowed.

    41. Textbooks and Student Materials

    Students are required to buy a workbook for use with the “Modern Metalworking” textbook. Cost for the book is $15.00. There is also a $25.00 lab material fee. Payment is due the first day of school. Cash or one check for $40.00 made out to Lancaster County Career and Technology Center will be accepted.

    42. Financial Aid

    Need based scholarships are available through the LCCT Foundation for up to $200 to cover the cost of uniforms and book. See a guidance counselor for an application.

    43. Course Work

    Students are expected to be aware of all assignments, maintain notes and handouts, and keep up to date. Projects and assignments are to be completed and handed in on or before the due date. Each student will need a three ring binder with tab dividers.

    44. Grading and Assessment

    Grades will be determined by evaluating three areas of study.

    45. Knowledge- 1/3 of final grade

    47. Work Ethic- 1/3 of final grade

    Work ethic skills are behaviors and attitudes that will help students get a job and keep it. The work ethic grade will be determined by evaluating the behavior of students in the following areas.

    49. Guidance and Counseling

    Guidance counselors are available to assist students with decisions related to occupational choices, post-secondary educational plans, and personal issues.

    50. Learning Support Services

    Learning support services are available upon request from our IU #13 learning facilitators for students with an IEP. The learning center is available for study help, remediation, make-up work, and test taking.

    51. Opening Day & Transportation

    LCCTC’s first student day is August 30. Bussing to and from the CTC is provided by the high schools. High schools will notify students of their CTC bus schedule. Only Seniors may drive to the CTC. All underclassman are required to ride the bus. 

    52. Manufacturing Cluster Webpage

    This year we have created a class web page to allow students and parents access to classroom information. There will be links for announcements, assignments, a classroom calendar, and photo galleries. You can access the site by visiting www.lcctc.org and clicking the “faculty” link. Click on my name and you will be at our web page.

    53. What you need for the first day of school.

    Blue Dickie brand work pants. Royal blue CTC tee shirt. High top leather work boots. No sneakers or casual boots with nylon panels. $40.00 cash or check for your workbook and lab materials fee.

    54. First day of school

    A three ring binder with tab dividers to keep notes and handouts organized. Something to write with. Pen or pencil. A positive attitude.

    55. What happens next?

    Students who successfully complete a cluster program may apply to a full-day program for their senior year. Training will focus on one specific trade area.
