Created by MedMonks Healthon Jul 3, 2018 How the Process of IVF is conducted? What is IVF? Renowned to treat infertility and some genetic problems, IVF or In Vitro Fertilisation is a technique, wherein a human egg is fertilised with qualitative sperm in a lab to help a woman get pregnant. IVF is emerging as a great way to help childless couples and give them the unworldly joy of becoming parents. Based on its high success rates, couples seeking to get pregnant are drawn to this fertilization method. There are thousands of hospitals and clinics that provide this treatment package but many women prefer to travel to India for the same, considering the huge difference in expense and expertise and skills of Indian doctors.IVF treatment in India, thus is gaining momentum rapidly. But there are many things you should know if you are considering this fertilization process for yourself or a loved one. Read on to know more! When IVF is used? If you are a woman suffering from the following conditions but failing in your trials to conceive, IVF is the best solution for you: Blocked, damaged or removed fallopian tubes Ovulation disorders, premature ovarian failure or uterine fibroids Genetic or hormonal disorders Unexplained infertility Whereas, in men, decreased sperm count or sperm motility can be the major reason of infertility. With only a few easily available tests, these problems can be detected by the doctor and IVF treatment will be prescribed on the go!

  2. How the IVF process works? Here is a step-by-step guide to the process of IVF: The woman’s natural menstrual cycle is switched off with daily injections or a nasal spray. Injections of fertility hormones are given to the woman to stimulate her ovaries. This way, she produces not just one but several eggs. When the eggs mature, a fine needle is used to collect them, with the help of ultrasound, under light sedation. After extraction of eggs, they are fertilised in the laboratory with quality sperm provided by a donor or the woman’s partner. Embryos or fertilised eggs are then grown in an incubator for some days. Using a thin tube, one or two healthy embryos are shifted into the woman’s uterus through vagina and cervix. If an embryo fruitfully implants, the woman conceives. She can confirm the same with a pregnancy test after two weeks. Any remaining healthy embryos can be frozen and stored for later use if needed. Please note that women, who have IVF treatment, often have more than one cycle. Also, there are many distinctions to the IVF procedure. For instance, a donor can be used for collecting sperm or eggs. In some cases, a designated surrogate may carry the pregnancy. Chances of success with IVF On average, every woman has about 1 in 5 chances of becoming pregnant with every cycle of IVF. The probability of getting pregnant through IVF is higher for women younger than 35 years of age, and lower for older women. Thus, it decreases with increasing age. Some women can get pregnant right with the first cycle, whereas some need up to 5 cycles of treatment to be successful, and some never fall pregnant.
