Talking about yourself There are three ways of asking someone’s name in French and two ways of asking how old someone is. Use whichever you feel most comfortable with. Tu t’apppelles comment? What are you called? Comment tu t’appelles? What are you called? Comment t’appelles-tu? What are you called? (this is generally used in written French) Je m’appelle... I am called... C’est qui? Who is it? Qui est-ce? Who is it? C’est... It is... Quel âge as-tu? How old are you? Tu as quel âge? How old are you? J’ai ___ ans I am __ years old J’ai six ans I am six years old Où habites-tu? Where do you live? J’habite à Edimbourg I live in Edimbourg Vocabulary
Embedding the language You can use age to ask someone’s age whenever it’s their birthday. Use both age and where you live when you’re doing the register.
Sample activities You will find a bank of sample activities which you can use to practise the vocabulary in the classroom. This is not a prescriptive list of activities and you can use or adapt them to suit the needs of your class. .
Quel âge as-tu? Activité Look at the following ages on the slides and use your knowledge of numbers to say what age it would be for each of them. E.g. J’ai cinq ans. Regardez les numéros C’est quel âge?
