Second Level Significant Aspects of Learning • Read aloud a simple text • Read and understand a variety of simple texts • Make comparisons between English and target language (including use of a bi-lingual dictionary with support) • Write about themselves and others and check the accuracy of own writing • Exchange straightforward information in writing using familiar words and phrases
Talking about yourself There are threeways of askingsomeone’sname in French and twoways of asking how oldsomeoneis. Use whicheveryoufeelmostcomfortablewith. At level 2 thereis a progression onto talking about others. Tu t’apppelles comment? What are youcalled? Comment tu t’appelles? What are youcalled? Comment t’appelles-tu? What are you called? (this is generally used in written French) Il/elles’appelle comment? What is he/she called? Je m’appelle... I amcalled... Il/Elle s’appelle…. He/Sheiscalled…. C’est qui? Whoisit? Qui est-ce? Whoisit? C’est... It is... Quel âge as-tu?/ Tu as quel âge? How old are you? J’ai ___ ans I am __ yearsold Où habites-tu? Where do you live? J’habite à Edimbourg I live in Edimbourg Vocabulary
Embedding the language You can use age to ask someone’s age whenever it’s their birthday. Use both age and where you live when you’re doing the register.
Sample activities You will find a bank of sample activities which you can use to practise the vocabulary in the classroom. This is not a prescriptive list of activities and you can use or adapt them to suit the needs of your class. .
Quel âge as-tu? Activité Look at the following ages on the slides and use your knowledge of numbers to say what age it would be for each of them. E.g. J’ai cinq ans. Regardez les numéros C’est quel âge?
