  1. INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS: KEY INFORMATION FOR EMPLOYERS

  2. What are T LEVELS? T Levels are new courses coming in September 2020, which will follow GCSEs and will be equivalent to 3 A Levels. These 2-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.

  3. How T Levels fit with other post-16 choices In future, young people will be able to make a clear choice after GCSE whether to pursue an academic or technical/vocational path ACADEMIC TECHNICAL T LEVELS Classroom-based course delivered over 2 years by an FE provider (80% in college and around 20% on the job) APPRENTICESHIPS Work-based training for a minimum of 12 months (80% on the job and 20% off the job with an FE provider) A LEVELS Subject-based qualifications delivered over 2 years by school sixth-form, sixth-form colleges and FE colleges (100% classroom based) PURPOSE: TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR ENTRY INTO SKILLED EMPLOYMENT (INCLUDING HIGHER LEVEL APPRENTICESHIPS) EITHER IMMEDIATELY OR AFTER HIGHER LEVELS OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION. Both T Levels and apprenticeships are based on the same occupational standards, developed by employers working with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. PURPOSE: TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION We are currently undertaking a review of other post-GCSE qualifications and will only retain those of high quality and with a distinct purpose.

ROLL OUT OF T LEVELS FROM 2020 ONWARDS CATERING AND HOSPITALITY CREATIVE AND DESIGN CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATIVE AGRICULTURE, ENVIRONMENTAL AND ANIMAL CARE Agriculture, Land Management and Production Building Services Engineering Craft and Design Human Resources Catering Management and Administration Cultural Heritage and Visitor Attractions Design, Surveying and Planning Animal Care and Management Media, Broadcast and Production Onsite Construction HAIR AND BEAUTY ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING HEALTH AND SCIENCE DIGITAL LEGAL, FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE Digital Business Services Education Health Accountancy Design, Development and Control Hair, Beauty and Aesthetics Healthcare Science Financial Digital Production, Design and Development Maintenance, Installation and Repair Science Legal Digital Support and Services Manufacturing and Process T LEVELS FOR 2020 DELIVERY T LEVELS FOR 2021 DELIVERY T LEVELS FOR DELIVERY IN 2022 OR 2023 TBC

T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience During an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days), students will gain the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

  6. WHY DO INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS NOW? Bring the benefits of industry placements to your business early and start working with local providers to plan and deliver T Level-style placements so that the introduction of T Level courses from September 2020 onward goes smoothly.

How we are responding- Industry Placement models • Recognise that no one size fits all model – and that different models are needed • Allowing students generally to work with up to 2 employers • Using on-site facilities for SEND and young offenders for part of the placement • Allowing a small proportion of occupationally relevant work tasters to count towards placement • Allowing part time work to count as long as it is occupationally relevant and at the right level • Placements recorded in hours rather than days - to reflect different working practices • Some route-specific models too such as:- • Construction / Engineering Skills Hubs • Construction • Digital

  9. How we are responding – Employer Support Employer support package:-Training, guidance and intensive support • Piloting an employer support fund in AY 19/20 Exploring local innovation to tackle location and access barriers

THE BENEFITS OF INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS Gain extra resources for day-to-day projects Develop a cost-effective recruitment pipeline of talent for entry-level jobs Attract motivated young people to your business and bring in imaginative and new ideas Build the capacity of your business and develop the skills you need Give your staff the opportunity to upskill in coaching and mentoring Build a more diverse and creative workforce Provide a positive experience for a local young person
