  15. Marriages fail because of SIN

  16. Marriages fail because ofFlawed Expectations

  17. “What Did You Expect?” “Again and again I have sat with couples who are surprised by what they are dealing with. Yet, when I give them an opportunity to tell their story, I am impressed to find, once again, that the things they are dealing with are the kinds of things the Bible predicts that flawed people in a fallen world will face.

  18. “What Did You Expect?” It is troubling when I sit with a wife who is shocked that her husband is a sinner, or with a husband who was unprepared for the fact that his wife is tempted to be selfish.” - Paul David Tripp

  23. Be sure you are a Christian

  24. I Could Never Promise You I could never promise you on just my strength alone That all my life I'd care for you, and love you as my own I've never known the future, I only see today Words that last a lifetime would be more than I could say

  25. I Could Never Promise You But the love inside my heart today is more than mine alone It never changes, it never fails, never seeks it's own And by the God who gives it, and who lives in me and you I know the words I speak today are words I'm going to do

  26. I Could Never Promise You And so I stand before you now for all to hear and see I promise you in Jesus' name the love He's given me And through the years on earth and as eternity goes by The life and love He's given us are never going to die

  27. Make your marriage your calling

  28. Proverbs 2:1-8 “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver…

  29. Proverbs 2:1-8 and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding…

  30. Proverbs 2:1-8 He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.”

  31. Proverbs 2:16-17 “It will save you also from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words, who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God.”

  32. Malachi 2:14 “You ask, ‘Why?’ It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.”

  33. Robertson McQuilkin

  34. Learn the meaning of forgiveness

  35. Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

  36. “Forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.”

  37. “When you have been wronged in word or action by your husband or wife, your response must be shaped by an immediate commitment that you make before God. Forgiveness begins by your giving the offense to the Lord. That does not mean that you act as if something wrong is right…

  38. It means that you do not carry the wrong with you (bitterness) and that you do not treat the other in light of the wrong (judgment). You entrust yourself to God’s mercy and justice. And you give yourself to overcoming evil with good. (Romans 12:9-21)…

  39. You commit to respond to your spouse with the same grace that you have been given. You do not insert yourself into God’s position and mete out punishment for his or her offenses.” -Paul David Tripp

  40. Unforgiveness • Debt is power • Debt is identity • Debt is entitlement • Debt is weaponry • Debt puts us in God’s place
