New entrants to IT occupations 2011Research - over 550,000 new entrants into IT &Telecom professional job roles over the next five years – an average of 110, 400 per annum These new entrants come from: • 51,200 people a year coming from occupations other IT & Telecoms industry (i.e. experienced workers who can be retrained as IT & Telecom professionals) • 18,400 people a year coming from education (predominantly graduate level and higher) • 40,800 people a year coming from other sources (e.g. Re-entering the workforce after a career break , early retirement or unemployment).

Skills Academy - SMEs SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE launched June 2011 • Skillsoft portfolio of services available to SMEs and individual IT professionals Includes: Over 1000 online courses Online mentors eBooks TestPreps Express Guides Tools and Templates (> 60) Articles and Industry Insights To train, retain and empower IT professionals • £95 for one year – introductory offer • Available at www.itskillsacademy.ac.uk

Cyber Security Supported by EURIM and our employer Cyber Security Advisory Group: • List of Cyber Security Qualifications, Exams, Accreditations and Courses • Existing quality provision in the marketplace • Skills Academy may commission new provision to cover any gaps subject to market demand • Future - aim to develop “clusters” of learning pathways underpinned by national IT Professional Standards (ITPS) • Supported by training providers specialising in Cyber Security

Apprenticeships What is an Apprenticeship: • e-skills UK was officially designated as the English Issuing Authority • Work-based training programme designed around the needs of employers, which lead to national recognised qualifications. • The IT and Telecoms apprenticeship frameworks are designed by e-skills UK with input from employers . • Apprenticeships combine competence based assessment with technical qualifications. • The training for apprenticeships is funded by the Government, the training allocation is calculated on the age profile of the candidates as follows:

Apprenticeship facts • 80% of those employers who employ apprentices agree they make their workplace more productive. • 81% of consumers favour using a company which takes on apprentices. • Employers who take on a 16-18 year old apprentice only pay their salary. The Government will fund their training. • 88% of employers who employ apprentices believe that Apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce. • 83% of employers who employ apprentices rely on their Apprenticeships programme to provide the skilled workers that they need for the future.

  20. e-skills UK – Support for Small Businesses & Digital Literacy • Digital Literacy • Over 75% of the UK’s current workforce uses IT in their everyday jobs and ‘IT literacy’ is now required for over 90% of new job recruits • In partnership with UK Gov. and UK Online helped develop an ONLINE BASICS ITQ qualification . 160,000 starts. • Small Businesses • Online Business IT Guide Toolkit helped over 90,000 people in last 2.5 years • With Google enabled over 80,000 small businesses start using their first web site in 2010 • Developed Managed Apprenticeships for 28,000 Microsoft partner network

Rated outstanding in re-licensing • 35,000 individuals in small businesses have benefited from the Business IT Guide. • 81% of the 50,000 students involved with the BigAmbition pilot say they’re more likely to pursue a future in technology • We have changed girls’ attitudes to IT through computer clubs, reaching more than 127,000 girls in over 3,700 schools • More than 4000 people completed an IT & Telecoms apprenticeship last year.

Rated outstanding in re-licensing (cont.) • Over 50,000 people subscribe to/receive our research publications • We created the Diploma in IT for 14-19 year olds on schools with more than 600 employers • Nearly 40,000 people achieved their ITQ last year • Our IT Management for Business degree is running in 13 universities • with 750 students • Last year 107,000 individuals directly benefited from our work.
