Review • What 3 specifications describe a processor? • What is the fastest type of computer memory? • When a user clicks on an icon to call an application, where is the application first loaded? • Give an example of a device, other than a PC, with a hard drive. • Which is larger, a GB or a MB? • If you wanted the programs on your PC to run faster, which piece of hardware should you upgrade first? Why?

  5. Toolbars • Menu Bar: Top-most toolbar of the screen. 2. Menu Command: Functions that operate on an active document • Toolbar: Displays commands and buttons 4. Buttons: Images on the toolbar that represent commands.

  16. Columns • Format > Columns • Can place columns anywhere in document • Easiest to type out text in regular paragraph-style, then apply columns later • Helpful when writing research papers or studies

  18. Creating Tables • Decide beforehand how many columns you will need. • Choose ‘Fixed Width’ for columns. Can control cells sizes individually later. • All formatting tools work inside tables too.

  19. Example 1: Tables Create a table with the following attributes: • 4 columns with headers of Rank, Artist Name, Favorite Song, Seen in Concert (Y/N) • Font of the column headers should be in red and bold. • Fill the table using your own data. Include at least five rows of data. • The font size of the data should be 1 point smaller than the font size of the headers. • Font color of the data should be black.

  20. Help • Microsoft Word Help has become a lot more intuitive in recent years • In order to return meaningful results, use specific search terms e.g. “font” vs. “change default font”
