Avoided layoffs and pay cuts
Maintained SPA employee protections
Saved due process and employee protections in investigation of personnel matters
Facilitated passage of “Mary Easley” provision requiring universities to report personnel actions quarterly, preventing favoritism such as Mary Easley’s 88 percent pay raise in 2008
Stopped privatization attempts

Secured largest back-to-back pay increases in two decades (5.5% in 2006 & 4% in 2007)
Won a raise to $22,067 for the lowest paid employees
HEALTH CARE
Maintained free health care premiums for employees
Led efforts with SHP to provide employee-spouse option
Launched North Carolinians for Affordable Health Care
RETIREMENT
Obtained 20.5% in COLA increases for retirees
Increased the retirement accrual rate
Sued Gov. Easley & facilitated repayment of $130 million in retirement funds
