Starfish Class Newsletter Starfish Class - ‘Stars in the making!’ 20th September 2013 Our learning Year 1 In literacy we have been learning the features of a recount, sequencing pictures and using time connectives correctly. We have also had guided reading and phonics. In maths we have focused on recognising numbers and counting out sets of objects up to 20. Reception We have been doing lots of PSED work, getting to know each other and settling into the classroom environment and rules. We have also painted and drawn self portraits. Snack Money Reception - The children’s snack money is now due for this half term, the amount is £3.50. Please send it in a named envelope, thank you. Year 1 – Toast is available daily at 10p, or you may bring a healthy snack as an alternative. Wellies and Spare Clothes - Reception Please ensure that your child has a pair of wellies and a spare set of clothes in school. This kept on your child’s peg. Reception – Visit to St Paul’s Church Every year the new Reception children are welcomed into the St Paul’s Family with a service at church. This year the service will take place on Thursday 26th September at 9:30am. It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible at Church. Reception – Reading/Phonics Meeting – Thursday 26th September We hold a yearly Phonics and Reading meeting for new Reception parents. We outline how we teach Phonics and early reading skills. This meeting will also provide you with information about our home reading system. It will take place at 3:30pm in the Starfish Classroom. Year 1 – Homework Please return your child’s homework on Wednesday. This should be placed in the box with your child’s reading book. Library Books All children will now have received a library book to share and enjoy with you at home. Year 1 changing day is Tuesday and Reception changing day is Thursday. Please place your returned book in the box provided. Snack Monday: Corn flakes and Milk Tuesday: Melon Wednesday: Custard Thursday: peppers Friday: crackers and butter Please let a member of Starfish staff know if your child has any allergies.
